This piece is going to be about by thoughts on the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals between the Boston Bruins and the St Louis Blues (5/27-6/12).
It was a series that went down to the wire with the Blues taking it in 7 for their first ever Stanley Cup!
GAME1: BRUINS 4 BLUES 2
The Blues came hot out of the gates in this one silencing the Boston crowd, as a goal by Braden Schen put the Blues up 1-0 after 1 silencing the Boston crowd.
The Blues would score again in the second, as Vladimir Tarasenko would double the St Louis lead before out of nowhere the Bruins came roaring back as Conner Clifton, Charley Mcovey, Sean Kuraly and Brad Marchand (Emty Net) propelled Boston to a 4-2 victory and a 1-0 series lead.
GAME 2: BLUES 3 BRUINS 2 OT
Charlie Corel would get the Boston party started with a goal, before Robert Bortuzzo answered for ST Louis to tie the game at 1. Joakim Nordstrom would give Boston the lead again, but the Blues would capp off a combined 4 goal first, when Tarasenko sent one home to tie it.
Both goalies, Tuuka Rask (Boston) and Jordan Binnington (Blues) would rule the next two periods, as the game went into overtime.
In overtime, it was Carl Gunnerson who played hero for ST Louis scoring the winning goal and tying this series up at 1 with a 3-2 Blues victory.
GAME 3: BRUINS 7 BLUES 2
All the talk of the Blues having the momentum with the series shifting to ST Louis quickly faded after the first period, as the Bruins took a 3-0 lead after 1 and never looked back en route to a 7-2 game 3 demolition of the Blues to take a 2-1 series lead.
7 different Bruins scored in this contest as they were the ones with all of the momentum in the world after this convincing game 3 win.
GAME 4: BLUES 4 BRUINS 2
The Blues started this one with a bang, as Ryan O Reilly scored to make it 1-0 ST Louis, only to be answered by Charlie Coyel of Boston to even this series at 1.
Tarasenko would send one home to give the Blues the lead, but Brandon Carlo would come right back and even the game at2.
In the 3rd, the Blues took over the game as O Reilly gave the Blues the lead once again, before Schenn sealed it with an emty netter to even the series at 2 with a 4-2 Blues win.
GAME 5: BLUES 2 BRUINS 1
O Reilly and David Perron sent goals home to gave the Blues a early 2-0 lead. But Boston’s Jake DeBrusk would give Boston life as he cut the Blues lead down to 2-1.
Clinging to a one goal lead, the Blues defense and goalie Jordan Binnington stepped up to stave off the determined Bruins offensive attack to pull themselves within one win of their first ever Stanley Cup with a 2-1 win to give them a 2-1 series lead.
GAME 6: BRUINS 5 BLUES 1
For a while, it looked like Brad Marchands 1st period goal would be the difference in this one.
But then the 3rd period came and the Bruins exploded for 4 goals, en route to a 5-1 win to force a winner-take all game 7 in Boston for the Stanley Cup.
GAME 7:
The story of this game was Jordan Binnington , as despite getting outshot 12-4 in the first period, the Blues had the lead thanks to Binmington’s multiple acrobatic saves.
The offense came from O Reilly and Alex Pitrangelo In the first period and Schenn and Zach Sanford in the 3rd to seal the deal on a 4-1 Blues win that gave them their first event Stanley Cup!!
The Conn Smyth trophy went to Ryan O Reilly, as the MVP of the postseason.
