Marv’s NFL Playoff predictions:
Sunday:
NFC:
2. Bucs(13-4) over 7. Eagles (9-8)
Philly is mainly inexperienced and is going up against the GOAT. They aren’t the Titans who vested Brady’s Pats on his turf two years ago. They haven’t proven to me they have anything that holds a candle to Tampa Bay, and this one should be a cakewalk for TB12. But Philadelphia will no doubt make him work.
NFC:
3. Cowboys(12-5) over 6. 49ers(11-6)
Many will grapple with this one, but I got Dallas mainly because QB Jimmy G isn’t at 100% with his hand injury, and Dak Prescott is unstoppable at the other end. Too much firepower allows Dallas to sneak past San Fran and into the elite 8.
4. Rams(12-5) over 5. Cardinals(11-5)
Not much to say here except that it’s the battle of the West, and Mathew Stafford's legacy is likely on the line. He’s yearned for this chance at postseason play for years but came up empty-handed in Detroit, so this represents a welcome sight for him.
As for Kyler Murray, that defense he saw a couple of weeks ago in the Cards' 30-23 loss to the Rams was no fluke and will be pummeled when the rivals clash in LA on Sunday.
AFC:
2. Chiefs(12-5) over 7. Steelers(9-7-1)
Props to Big Ben and Collin Boswell, who led Pittsburg to the playoffs with a 16-13 elimination game win over Baltimore in the regular-season finale. But there’s a reason why they’re 12.5 underdogs, for they will be facing Patrick Mahomes and a KC team that has gone 9-1 since beginning the season 3-4 and obliterated Pittsburg 36-10 in week 16. Ben Roethlisberger has had a hall of fame career, but like he said,” We have no chance,” and I genuinely believe Sunday will be his retirement party at Arrowhead.
Divisional round:
NFC
1. Packers(14-3) over 4. Rams
Saying it’s hard to win in the Frozen Tundra is an understatement but a virtually impossible task when Aaron Rodgers is at MVP form. Green Bay comes away victorious and advances to their third straight conference championship game.
2. Bucs over 3. Cowboys
Remember that 31-28 thriller on opening night that concluded with a Ryan Succop FG as time expired? This contest will be highly anticipated and closely contested. Still, Dak’s winless road record in the playoffs and Brady’s ability to carve up the Dallas defense will predominantly be on display down the stretch.
Buccaneers head back to Lambeau
AFC:
1. Titans(12-5) over 5. Raiders
Ryan Tannehill has lived up to his payday, and the NO1 seed is getting superstar RB Derrick Hennery back at total amo. The defense of Vegas won’t be able to keep up, and the punishing D-Line will contain Carr.
3. Bills over 2. Chiefs
Buffalo gets their revenge and for a good reason. Josh Allen rose the occasion in their week five meeting and will do so again. There’s a reason why the Chiefs looked overmatched in that game, and my personal feeling is that the Bills were highly determined to make a statement and will do that once again here. We all remember Stephon Diggs staying on the field to watch the AFC championship ceremony after his team fell to Kansas City. This year, they will take that to heart.
CONFERENCE FINAL:
NFC:
Bucs over Packers
Different year, the same result. Yes, I understand the Packers are more potent, and Tampa Bay is weaker than last season, but the depth the Buccaneers displayed in last season's game still resonates with me here, as they just seemed more willing to go big rather than go home.
AFC:
Bills over Titans
They were my preseason pick to make the Super Bowl, and they will expose a Tennessee team that some NFL pundits say shouldn’t have been here in the first place. But also, Buffalo is battle-tested and more determined by this point to advance to Los Angeles for the Super Bowl.
SUPER BOWL:
Bucs over Bills.
I’ve been saying the same thing for five months when it comes to this, and I’ll hold onto it until proven wrong, which very well may happen. But I’m sticking to my instincts, as TB12 repeats and gets ring #8 at 44 years old
