The dream will come true. Game 7 of the World Series will be happening after the Nationals rallied to defeat the Astros 7-2 in game 6. The win is the 6th straight by a visiting team in this World Series making it the first time ever that the visiting teams are 6-0 through the first 6 games in a 7 game series.
Astros fans flocked to Minute Maid Park, hoping to assure that it would be the last time in 2019 that they would so, as the Astros led this series 3-2 with game 6 at home in front of a raucous crowd praying that they would be witnesses on an historic night for there franchise.
Early on, Houston’s prayers were answered as they took a 2-1 lead in the 1st on an Alex Bregman solo blast (Which followed up a José Altuvie sac fly that answered an Anthony Rendon RBI single) off Nats starter Stephen Strasburg.
Astros fans had every reason to feel confident after that, as they had future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander on the mound who looked like his dominant self through 4 innings as he kept the Nationals bats at bay and preserved a 2-1 Houston lead.
But in the 5th, the Nationals once again showed there resolve and why they deserved to be in this position in the first place, as Adam Eaton and 21 year old Juan Soto went deep to give the Nats the lead at 3-2 and chase Verlander out of the game.
Then in the 7th, trying to add to there one run lead, Trea Turner led off with a surprise bunt and appeared to be safe as the ball tricked away from Astros 1B Yuli Gurriel’s glove but was called out due to interference even though the replay the replay showed, that even though the ball hit Turner and the glove came off Yuli’s hand, Trea beat the throw regardless and should’ve been called safe, but wasn’t because it wasn’t allowed to officially been reviewed because it was a “Judgement call” by the umpires.
This led to heated arguments from the Nationals dugout including manager Dave Martinez who was ejected.
But just when you thought, that controversial call could prove costly for Washington, MVP-candidate Anthony Rendon saved the day as he went deep for a 2run HR 2 pitches later to push the Nationals lead to 5-2.
As for the Nats pitching, Stephen Strasburg went 8.1 innings of 2 run ball with 7Ks, propelling the visitors (Who Scored two more in the 9th on a 2 run double by Rendon that gave him 5RBIs on the day) to a 7-2 win that forces a winner-take trophy game 7 Wednesday night (10/30) in Houston where Zack Greinke will host Max Scherzer.
MVP: Anthony Rendon
