4TH TIMES THE CHARM! YANKEES FINALLY DEFAT D BACKS IN 2019

It wasn't easy, but the New York Yankees finally bested the Arizona DiamondBacks in 2019 7-5 on a cloudy, but rainy Wednesday afternoon(7/31) in the Bronx, NY. The win put the Yankees back atop the AL, record-wise.

Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees, and though he didn't give up any runs, he failed to make it the past the 4th inning, as Arizona worked his pitch count up, while Masa struggled to find command of his pitches. However, if there is one bright spot for Masa aside from giving up 0 runs, he looked a lot better, then in Thursday's outing when he gave up 12 runs in 3 innings of work against Boston.

As for the Yankees offense, they were able to get to Zack Greinke early, as Mike Tauchman went deep for a 2runHR in the second plating Gio Urshela to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. Greinke would however settle down, and would go 5 innings of 2 run ball in what ultimately was his final start as a Diamondback, as he was shockingly later traded to the Houston Astros in a buzzer-beating Trade Deadline deal.

In the top of the 5th, the D Backs chased Tanaka out of the game, as Chad Green came in with runners on the corners with 0 outs for Eduardo Escobarb who's bloop single cut the Yankees lead in at 2-1. Then moments later with the bases loaded and 1out, Jake Lamb lofted a fly ball to CF that Aaron Hicks caught before overthrowing to 3B, as he attempt to make an inning- ending double play, cost the Yankees two runs giving the DiamondBacks a 3-2 lead, which would hold up entering a 37 minute rain delay an inning later.

Whatever the Yankees did during that delay must've really fired them up because they came out swinging, as in the 7th, a Tauchman 2 out double set the stage for Austin Romine, who launched a go-ahead 2 run blast into the seats to put the Yankees in front 4-3. They wouldn't stop there as in the 8th, the yankees added to their lead when Didi Gregorious drove in Aaron Judge with an RBI groundout, before a Gleyber Torres RBI double and a Camron Maybin RBI single, gave the Yankees a 7-3n advantage which would be enough as they would hang on for a 7-5 win with Aroldis Chapman locking down the save.

MVP: AUSTIN ROMINE

STATS TO KNOW:

Tim Locastro went deep in the 9th off Nestor Cortez Jr for for his 1st HR of his career. The Homer would make it a 7-4 game.

The Yankees now have 34 comeback victories. The most in baseball.

MORE GIO WEB GEMS: Not only has Gio Urshelea been hot at then plate lately, but he's also been hot in the field as well, as he made two more turnaround epic throws from 3B to 1B with one of them even being from foul territory!

Those plays were a key reason why the Yankees won this game, as one of his plays came with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 4th, saving 3 runs.

THOUGHTS:

Finally! It was really getting annoying that we couldn't beat the DiamondBacks, and I was happy that it happened in this one being it was the last meeting of the season barring a meeting in then World Series in October. Hopefully this win starts a nice string of wins! Onto the weekend for some revenge against Boston!

The Yankees are currently 10 games up on Boston, which will be 9.5n orb 10.5 entering the weekend, as the Sox take on the Rays on Thursday before they travel to NY.

The Yankees will send James Paxton (5-6, 4.72 ERA), while Boston will send Eduardo Rodriguez(13-4,4.13 ERA) to the mound.
