Mike Tauchman stole the show and with the help of a few of his teammates, the Yankees kept their winning streak alive by defeating the O’s 9-4 on yet another historic night in Baltimore. The win is the Yankees 7th straight, 8th in their last 9 games and lowers their magic number to clinch the AL East down to 40.
The Yankees started off this game with a bang, as Mike Tauchman, DJ LeMahieu and Didi Gregorious all went deep in the 3rd off Baltimore starter Asher Wojciechowski to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.
The Orioles would respond, however, as they got to Yankees “Opener” Jonathan Holder in the 3rd when Monday’s “Cycle Man” Jonathan Villar tripled home a run, before scoring on an RBI groundout by Trey Mancini to cut the Yankees lead down to 3-2.
In the top of the 4th, the Yankees extended their lead once again, as Austin Romine doubled home Camron Maybin and Mike Ford to put the Yankees back up by 3 at 5-2.
But the Orioles wouldn’t quit once again and come right back when Anthony Santander went deep for a 2run HR off Stephen Tarpley ( Who relived Holder after 2.2 Innings) to cut the Yankees lead down to 5-4. This game could’ve easily been tied at 5 if not for Mike Tauchman, who robbed Pedro Severino of a solo HR in the 3rd by leaching over the wall to make an outstanding catch that will go down as a candidate for the catch of the year.
The O’s would continue to threaten the Yankees starting pitching, as Tarpley was unable to complete the 5th inning, as Nestor Cortes JR relived him with 2 men on and 2 outs, who was able to get out of it and then proceed to pitch a scoreless 6th and 7th as well keeping the Yankees in front.
The HR ball would keep coming off the Yankees bats, as Austin Romine joined the party in the 6th when he went deep to center field that gave the Yankees a 6-4 lead. Then in the 8th, Austin Romine and Mike Tauchman ripped back 2 back doubles that gave the Yankees even more breathing room at 7-4. Mike continued his hot night moments after driving in Romine by stealing 3rd.
In the 9th, Brett Gardner hit his second oppo-taco HR of his career, which was followed by a Camron Maybin blast that went out for the Yankees 6th HR of the night, as Adam Ottavino locked the game down by pitching two scoreless innings, as the Yankees rolled 9-4 for their 14th straight win at Camden Yards.
