The Yankees were back in action tonight, after a strange week, which saw their 4 games against Philly postponed, and their games against Baltimore next week moved to this week due to the Marlins Covid-19 breakout. The Yankees had their ace, Gerrit Cole, on the mound to face the Baltimore Orioles.
DJ LeMahieu hit a lead off homer on the second pitch of the game off O’s starter Asher Wojciechowski, to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
The Bombers tacked on another run in the opening frame on a Mike Ford Sac-fly.
In the bottom of the inning Cole gave up an RBI double to Jose Iglesias, however, he settled down after that and shut down the Orioles lineup until the 7th inning, when he gave up a 2 run shot to Dwight Smith Jr.
In the 3rd inning, Judge blasted his first HR of the year and Hicks followed that up with a 2 run shot of his own, to put the Yankees on top 5-1. New York added some insurance runs in the later innings courtesy LeMahieu, Judge and Stanton RBI singles. A wild pitch in the 9th scored Judge, for the
visitors 9th and final run. The Yankees went on to win the game 9-3.
*Notes:*
a) Judge went 2-3 with a 2 RBIs and 3 Runs scored (he also reached on a catchers interference and a HBP)
