Looking to build on a 6-4 upset win over the HANC Hurricanes in their 1st game, the MDY Elementary Hockey Warriors destroyed the Flatbush Falcons 11-2 on Thursday night (11/14) at a sell-out crowd Warrior Dome to improve MDY to 2-0 on the season.
The team came out sloppy and followed up two fluke penalties by allowing a goal, as Hymie Gindi snuck one through the wickets of MDY goalie Albert Zetouni, to give Flatbush a 1-0 lead. But MDY showed their resolve, and rallied back in a big way that stretched throughout the rest of this game, as Davis Kishk fired home two quick goals to give MDY a 2-1 lead after 1 period of play.
Personally, as a spectator in the stands, you could feel the momentum having turned heavily to the Warriors side more than the score showed and it proved mightily in the second period.
The Warriors came out with avenges and proved too much for the young team from Flatbush, as they scored 3 quick goals and before Flatbush even knew what hit them, it was 5-1 MDY with Warrior Nation making all the noise in the gym.
These goals were due in large part to the veteran duo of Abie Franco and Henry Tawil, who connected with each other, on the 3rd and 5th goals, as Tawil fed Abie, who socked one in to double the Warriors lead, before Abie returned the favor on the 5th goal. This combination hitting their stride on those two tally’s, was sandwiched in between another goal by David Kishk, who completed the hat trick.
At that moment, the onslaught was on, as Albert Cohen netted two goals of his own, before Abie and Henry rounded out the seven goal period with two more tally’s, to give the Warriors a 9-1 lead.
This huge lead was also in large part, due to the goaltending combo of Albert Zetouni and Joseph Hedaya, who kept Flatbush off the board in the second period, by showing off some very nice goaltending skills.
The demolition was finished off in the 3rd when, Abie Franco completed his hat trick with a goal, before Morris Cohen added the final tally to this onslaught by answering a garbage time Falcons goal to make the final score 11-2 in favor of the Warriors.
Also keep in mind that rookie goaltender Stephen Ezon did a great job in mop-up duty for the Warriors in goal, during the latter frame.
MVP: Abie Franco
