You know what they say , “You have to capitalize on your chances” , and the Yankees did none of that on Monday night ,(7/2) in a disheartening 5-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves in 11 innings. The Braves bullpen was stellar in keeping their offense in the game , where they eventually broke through . As for the Yankees , their missed opportunities came back to haunt them.
The pitching matchup, featured Jonathan “Lazanga “ for the Yankees, while the Braves with Anibal Sanchez.went for the Braves.
The Yankees picked up right where they left off the previous night in an 11-1 bashing over the Red Sox , (that featured 6 HRs from the Bombers) with an Araon Judge oppo -taco to right field that gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
The Braves would however respond in the 3rd as Josh Camrgo would mash one to right field to tie the game at 1. But some wild pitches by the Braves gave the Yankees the lead back in the bottom of the 3rd, as after a Gleyber Torres double, two wild pitches allowed Gleyber to score who showed some great hustle , to give the yanks a 2-1 lead.
But in the top of the 4th , 3 straight doubles by , Nick Markaikis , Kurt Suzuki ,and Ronald Acuna JR gave Atlanta a 3-2 lead. That would be it for Jonathan, as he went 4 Innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits , while striking out 3.
The Yankees would tie the game , in the 5th inning when Didi Gregorius hit a sac fly that brought in Torres , and all of a sudden , we were tied at 3!
In the 7th, Chad Green pitched a 1.2,3 inning after reliving Jonathan Holder , who pitched two clean innings out of the bullpen reliving “Lazanga “ . In the bottom of the 7th, opportunities started to spring for the Yankees, as after Torres and Gardner walked to lead off the inning , Araon Judge lined out and Didi Gregorius bounced into a inning ending double play , and that was the end of that threat .
In the 8th, the Yankees had first and 3rd with 2 outs, but weren’t able to score as Neil Walker went down swinging .
In the 9th , Aroldis Chapman came in and threw his normal heat , to keep the Yankees in the game and give them a chance to walk it off in the bottom of the 9th. It looked like , the Yankees would walk it off in the bottom of the 9th inning, as after a Gleyber Torres single, Brett Gardner grounded out into a double play , and Araon Judge struck out to end the 9th , and send this game to extra innings.
Delin Betances would get out of a first and 3rd , 2 out jam in the top of the 10th to keep the Yanks alive heading into the bottom the 10th.
However, in the bottom of the 10th, the Yankees would find that they had the game on a silver platter , only not being able to reach out and grab it , as with 1 out and a runner in first , Araon Hicks hit a 1 out ground rule - double, and just like that the Bomers were set up , as they had runners on second and 3rd with only 1 out!
The yanks would load the bases after Miguel Andujar was intentionally walked, but then frustration struck as Neil Walker , and Austin Romine went down swinging, and after having THE BASES LOADED AND ONE OUT, the Yankees didn’t score ,and we went to the 11th.
After that , it only seemed a matter of time before the Yanks would lose , and that time came in the top of the 11th , as with a man on , Ronald Acuna JR Lofted a fly ball to right field , that went off of the stretching Araon Judges glove and into the stands for a 2 run HR that gave the Braves a 5-3 lead.
A 2 out walk by Judge , gave the yanks a chance in the bottom of the 11th, but a DIDi x Gregorius strike out ended all hopes , and the game as well , as the Braves beat the Yankees 5-3.

THAT WAS RONALD’S 7th HR of the year , but the Rookies first HR in Yankee stadium.
