BANANA SPLIT! LATE RALLY HELPS YANKEES EARN SPLIT OF DH WITH PHILLIES.

Mike Tauchman and Gio Urshela came through with some clutch hitting, and the Yankees bullpen went to-to-toe with Phillies ace Aaron Nola, as the Yankees earned a split of the doubleheader with a 3-1 win over the Phillies in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park.

Aaron Nola took the mound for the Phillies, and was brilliant striking out 12 over 6 innings of 1 run ball, with his only big blemish being a Luke Voit solo shot that gave the Yankees a 1-0 2nd inning lead. As for Jonothan Losiga, the Yankees “opener” went 2.1 innings of 1 run ball, with the lone run being a RBI single by Andrew Knapp in the bottom half of the 2nd to even the game at 1. From there, Luis Avilan (1 scoreless inning), Chad Green (2.1 scoreless), and Adam Ottavino kept the Phillies bats at bay, sending the game to the 7th evened at a run apiece. But in the decisive frame, an RBI double by Mike Tauchman, and an RBI single by Gio Urshela gave the Yankees a 3-1 cushion, which they never relinquished as Zack Brittion closed out how 5th game of the season, to nail down a 3-1 Yankees win.

UP NEXT: The Yankees will go for the series win on Thursday, when Jordan Montgomery of the Bombers opposes Zack Eflin. Game time is 6:05PM.
