Giancarlo Stanton (otherwise known as “Bigfoot “) did it all on Tuesday night ,(7/3) as the Yankees knotted up their big series with the Atlanta Braves with an 8-5 win at Yankee Stadium. Stanton, made a game saving catch and had a clutch 2 run homer to propel the Yankees , who jumped out to an early 6-0 lead , before the Braves battled back .
The pitching matchup featured Sean Newcomb for the Braves, and Domingo German , for the Yankees.
Clearly itching for revenge, from Monday’s devastating loss, the Yankees jumped out in an early lead , as Araon Hicks mashed a 2 run Oppo -taco in the first inning to give the yanks a 2-0 lead .
The Bomers weren’t done as Kyle Higashioka drilled his 3rd Career HR (for his 3rd Career hit) in the last 3 games ,for a 3-0 Yankees lead in the 3rd.
Five straight walks in the 3rd inning , by Atlanta , produced 2 more Yankee runs , before a wild pitch in the 4th which brought In Araon Judge made it 6-0 Yankees after 4 innings of play .
But the Braves would show why they are the best team in the National league , as they would rally against German in the 5th. A 2 run HR by Ender Incartie got the Braves on the board , before Ozzie Albies crushed the next pitch to right field to cut the Bomers lead in half at 6-3.
Two more singles , and that was it for German , who struggled once again, going 4.1 Innings, while allowing 3 runs on 6 hits , while striking out 6.
AJ Cole , would come in for the yanks out of the bullpen , and after striking out the first batter , AJ issued a 2 out walk to Ronald Acuna Jr , before striking out Tyler Flowers to end the threat , and keep the Yankees lead in tact !
Adam Warren relived Cole in the 7th inning, and got hit hard , as he allowed a 2 run HR to Nick Markakis to allow the Braves to get within 1 run at 6-5.
It could have easily been a tie game , after the next batter , Kurt Suzuki lofted a fly ball to right , but Giancarlo Stanton leaped up and made the catch , to keep the Yanks in front!
The Braves would threaten again in the 8th , as Warren allowed two straight 1 out singles , before being replaced by a struggling Chasen Shreve. But Chasen would get the next two batters out and we headed to the bottom of the 8th, with the Yankees clinging to a 6-5 lead.
With the Yankees needing some breathing room, Stanton mashed a 2 run HR to right field to extend the Yankees lead to 8-5 , and practically seal this one .
In the 9th , Aroldis CHAMPAN came in, and sealed the Yankees 8-5 win over the Braves!
KEY STATS With Hicks 15th Hittikg his 15th Homer, the Yankees now have 5 players with at least -5 HRs Judge , Stanton , Didi , Gleyber Torres , and now Hicks .
