So, after that huge 11-0 season-opening win against Vermont (what a blast, right?), our Yeshiva University Roller Hockey team got ready to face a real challenge in the 2023-24 season. It was Hofstra's turn, and they were no pushovers, having defeated Vermont 10-1 themselves.
The Macs started strong, showing they were up for it. Just 2 minutes and 46 seconds into the game, Ariel Greenberg tipped home a shot from Yonah Suissa, and bam, we had a 1-0 lead. However, you know how it goes, sometimes momentum can be a fickle thing. Britt Bischoff, the guy who scored 71 goals and 96 points in just 16 games last season, netted two goals for Hofstra, giving them a 2-1 lead.
Yet the Macs weren't backing down. In the second period, Zach Levy found Yoni Drazin for the equalizer. Then, the long-time line mates from Boston, Ariel Greenberg and Sol Feder, teamed up for a beauty of a goal. Bischoff completed his hat trick for Hofstra, but YU came back with Greenberg connecting with Feder again to take back the lead.
Now, here's the catch regarding YU’s star acquisition. Feder is an amazing two way talent. But he’s got this knack for finding his way to the penalty box. Tripping penalty? Yep, his fourth in just two games. Hofstra wasted no time and pounced on the opportunity when Collin Ewald, with passes from Britt Bischoff and Mathew Materazo, tied it up at 4.
The third period was a nail-biter with both teams playing tight, clean hockey. Shots were hard to come by, but Hofstra had the last laugh. A turnover on YU’s part led to Bischoff setting up Mozertao, giving Hofstra a 5-4 lead with just 9:32 left. They sealed the deal with Mozerato finding Bischoff for an empty-net tally, handing YU their first loss of the season in a 6-4 Hofstra win.
