Rip off the tarps, and abandon the fake crowd noise, because in NYC fans are coming back to root on their beloved teams. Starting this upcoming Tuesday(2/23), the Knicks, and Nets will welcome back fans into MSG, and Barclays Center, with the Knicks welcoming back 2,000(10% capacity), while the Nets will welcome back 300 patriots, and slowly work their way up to 10% at 1,800 after the All-Star break. Additionally, the Rangers are welcoming back 1,900 fans for their Friday night game(2/26) against the Boston Bruins. But nevertheless, for the first time in 352 days, we will hear real crowd noise, from the stands. Players, have expressed excitement to the news, with RJ Barret saying “They can pump all the fake crown noise they want, but we know it’s entirely different, when you guys come to the games”. Said Derrick Rose,”These fans know basketball, they’re passionate and you need that as an organization”. Others, including James Harden of the Nets, and Rangers coach David Quinn, have also expressed interest, with both showing excitement, and saying the fans “Get their engine started”, and that it has been an abnormal adjustment without them.
Not only has it been an adjustment for the players, but us fans as well here in New York, as you definitely noticed the difference when watching the 2020 fan-less US Open, and this past baseball season, with us just yearning to get back to the stadiums, and will our teams to victory. Now, even if it’s just in limited numbers, and through masks, we get to have that privilege again. Embrace it, appreciate it, be safe, stay healthy, and most importantly, be loud!
Welcome back fans, let’s have some fun!
