Want some more good news folks? The MLS, along with the NHL and NBA is also coming back! After some tense negotiations, the players and owners agreed to a format to restart the season; meanwhile the MLB negotiations remain ongoing.
The MLS format features a similar style to the World Cup, with 4 groups of 6, two groups having an extra team to accommodate for all 26 teams, 5 games, and an 8 team knockout stage playoffs. These group stage games will count as regular season games in the MLS standings.
As for the MLB, it unfortunately doesn’t seem like we will get a season in early July, as the two sides continue to reject proposals back and forth at each other. On the bright side, one common middle ground idea has been floated, with 82 games and full prorated salaries being it. However, that saying hasn’t gained much traction at least yet in the negotiations.
Optimism is there in terms of being a season, but how soon and how many games is unclear.
