Reports came out late last night, that have just recently been confirmed, so what that means is this.
The New York Yankees have acquired 5-time all-star, and former NL MVP, Andrew Mccutchen, from the San Francisco Giants, along with cash considerations, for two minor leaguers.
Those two minor leaguers are not in the Yankees top 10 prospect list , as they are ranked 23rd (Abitatal Avelino), and 26th ( Juan De Paula) ,in the Yankees system. This trade has come out of nowhere, so let's break it down.
GIANTS PERSPECTIVE:
In my opinion, this is the Giants throwing in the towel for their season as up until now, they were lurking, in the NL playoff race, but that seems to be done now with this trade.
the two prospects the Giants got will not be called up until next year, according to reports.
The reason why the Giants traded Andrew, is because he will be a free agent in the offseason, and they didn't just want to let him walk.
YANKEES PERSPECTIVE:
Honestly, it goes both ways, on one hand, it's a great upgrade for the Yankees, Judge has been out for way more, than the Yankees said he would originally, and looks as if he will be out at least 2-3 more weeks .So with that, the Yankees went and got Mccutchen for a cheap price ( More on that later). Andrew will most likely replace the awful Shane Robinson in right field, and will start until Aaron Judge comes back.
Meanwhile, Giancarlo Stanton will remain at DH, because of his hamstring so it works out for everybody! However, this is where it gets interesting, and that is when Judge comes back to the lineup. What I think will happen then is that Andrew will become a good bat off the bench, which is great for him! The reason why I say that is because Mccutchen is an average player now, then he was five years ago in Pittsburgh when he was MVP. But still has that clutch power in him, and that leadership in him, that he will be able to fit into the Yankees swagger.
This is where this trade gets " Really" interesting for me is because what if this is a sign that Aaron Judge is not going to be ready for the postseason? That's something to scratch your head about, but either way, I think it‘s a good trade for the Yankees, McCutchen is only worth $3M, which keeps the Yankees under the luxury tax hold, and has some playoff experience as well.
WINNER OF TRADE : YANKEES:
I will be honest here, the Yankees got the better of this deal, because they found a great replacement for Judge.
While the Giants got something for Andrew, it doesn't seem like those two return prospects will make a huge impact on the Giants roster. . However, they can make a solid one . Meanwhile , McCutchen can take advantage of Yankee Stadium, with the type of oppo-taco power that he has.
DID YOU KNOW?
That the 2015 Pittsburgh Pirates had, Neil Walker, JA Happ, and Andrew Mccutchen, and still lost the NL Wildcard game? What do you think of that?- Jack Alhadeff
My thoughts on that: That's actually really funny, but I don't think it will happen this time, Happ has more experience, and so does Mccutchen ,and this team is more talented than that Pirates team.
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT THE DIVISION RACE?
While you still got to keep the faith in the AL East , its unlikeley that the Yankees win the division( As they trail the Red Sox by 8.5 games) , but it suits them well for the playoffs (which the Yankees will most likely make,). The Yankees are projected as of now , to at least make it to the ALDS against Boston, which will be a close series in my opinion.
Note :
The Yankees are ahead of the Oakland Athletics by 4.5 games for the first wild-card spot, and are up 9 games over the Seattle Mariners , who hold the 3rd wildcard spot.
Andrew Mccutchen, will most likely start his Yankees
career on Friday night , in the Bronx, when the Yankees battle the Detroit Tigers !
Let‘s see what happens!!!
