BREAKING: RACE FOR METS BACK ON!

METS SALE UPDATE:

Steve Cohen is back! The first-round bids for ownership of the Mets were due yesterday, and Steve Cohen emerged as the leader with a whopping $4 billion combined offer to take ownership of the team and the SNY network. Disputes over SNY and percent of ownership, is what caused a potential deal over $2.6 billion to fall through.

Also in the bidding are the Josh Harris/David Blitzer group, as the owners of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils have jointly thrown their hat in the ring with an offer in the range of $1.7 billion, which is also what the Jlo/Arod group submitted as well. Any agreement between the Mets and a bidder would need to be ratified by 22 of the other 29 owners (75%), which skyrockets the chances of Alex Rodriguez winning out, as MLB execs are reportedly unsure about Cohen and the Harris/Blitzer group, while ARod’s baseball and knowledge can’t be questioned, as he did play 22 seasons in the big leagues, including the last 12 with the Yankees, so it’s safe to say he knows what NY is like too.

It has been widely-reported that if Arod and his group proposes a bid that is “within $250 million” of the leader, the Wilpons will sell the team to them. I’m curious to see what you guys think about this race for ownership of the Mets, which is expected to be completed before the end of the 2020 MLB season.

As of now, Cohen has a $2.3 million lead on Arod., but has the advantage of outspending his fellow bidders. It will be interesting to see what happens
