In what has shocked many people, Luis Severino will miss the entire 2020 season and some of the 2021 season with Tommy Jhonn Surgery. Luis was out must of last year with a shoulder injury, and only pitched in late September and the postseason. Now, the Yankees won’t even get to use him late in the season this time around.
Replacing Sevy in the rotation, will be Jonothan Losiga until Domingo German comes back from his 63 game suspension. With James Paxton also on the shelf until May with a back injury, Jordan Montgomery will also start the season in the starting rotation.
The Yankees can definitely overcome this blow, as they won 103 games last year despite setting a record for injuries. Still, it’s upsetting to see that the man the Yankees extended for 4 years and $40 million, hasn’t nearly lived up to his contract.
