The Yankees have acquired a shortstop!!!!
No not Manny Machado, his decision comes Thursday. But former All- Star , former Toronto Blue Jay and former Yankee killer Troy Tulowitzki!!!
Now I know what you are thinking , everyone CALM DOWN!!!!!
The Yankees signed Tulo for backup in between Manny and the Didi Injuy. This means , that just in case anything happens to Manny and Didi is still out, we have backup . The Jays will pay the final $20 million of his salary .
Okay , so now let’s get into Tulo’s past .
He was a 5 time All- Star and a 2 time Gold Glove award winner with the Colorado Rockies , where he played there from 2006 to 2015, before being traded to the Blue Jays.
Since coming to Toronto, he hasn’t been doing much as injury’s have hurt the 34 year old veteran , which is why the Blue Jays released him earlier this offseason , after being sidelined for about 2 years.
However, Tulowitsky has been working out publicly this offseason, and while his bat still has some pop in it , his remaining fielding skills remains to be seen.
Personally I do like this move for the Bronx Bombers, because it gives them some insurance and they can continue to work with him until he is needed at shortstop.
As for the deal, the Yankees are paying Tulo $555K over 1 year.
As for Toronto, they owe Troy $38 million over the next two years, with $20 million coming in 2019.
The Yankees will have Tulowitsky for 2019, before he becomes a free agent.
Whichever team he goes too 2020, Toronto will have to pay 18 million anyway.
As of now, the Yankees intend to have Tulowitsky for only 2019.
