No this is not an April fools joke.
Now that he isn’t the DH, Giancarlo Stanton can’t fight through this injury.
Prior to tonight’s series opening tilt with the Tigers, the Yankees placed Stanton on the 10 day IL, with a left biceps strain.
Last season, because he was the DH, Stanton fought through a right hamstring injury.
But now because of the injury to Yankees CF Aaron Hicks, Stanton had to start the season in left field. This adds to the already full list of injuries, as Stanton will join CC , Luis Severino, Jacoby Elsburry, Ben Heller, Jordan Montgomery ,Didi Gregorius, Delin Betances and Aaron Hicks on the shelf.
To replace Stanton, the Yankees called up Clint Frazier from AAA in a shock to some people, as many fans thought the Yankees would call up Tyler Wade, who didn’t make the team because of the injury’s to Aaron Hicks, forcing the team to trade for OF Mark Tachman.
While Stanton is out, Frazier and Tachman will likely be switching off in left field.
Thoughts:
It stinks, but I think this will be good for Stanton. He can use this time off to refresh himself, after starting the season 9 for 16 with 4 strikeouts, 2 hits and 7 walks. While that might look good, Stanton has had trouble coming up in the clutch for the Yankees so far this season.
