On this day (8/29) 40 years ago, the Yankees looked up at the AL East standings, and saw that they were trailing the Boston Red Sox by 7.5 games. That's better than what they were earlier in the month, at 14.5 games. Everyone remembers ,or have heard about the 1978 New York yankees, how they ultimately rallied, and won the division in dramatic fashion. A one-game playoff, at Fenway Park, decided the division, and a 3run HR by Bucky Dent propelled the Yankees past the Red Sox, for the AL East title, en route to a World Series championship! So here we are, August 29th,2018, and as we look up at the standings, the Yankees trail the Red Sox by 6.5 games, after trailing the Red Sox by 10.5 games, a couple of weeks ago. But there is still a long way to go for these Yankees, as they will have to face some really tough opponents, coming up, including six games aga the Red Sox. So let’s dive right in, what do the Yankees need to do to make history repeat itself. SCHEDULE :The Yankees have 30 games remaining, one more than the Red Sox (29), and 16 of those games are against teams above 500, so all that means the Yankees just have to keep winning series, especially against the Red Sox. Meanwhile, 15 of the Red Sox final 29 games are against teams above .500, for example, the Astros, and Indians, who the Red Sox have had trouble against this season. So there is some comfort right there. HEALTH:As most of you know, the Yankees are somehow wining despite missing stars, the Yankees have kept on wining . Aaron Judge (wrist ) , Gary Sanchez ( groin), Didi Gregorious (Heel) ,and Aroldis Chapman( ankle) . However , the good news is that Didi , and Sanchez are reportedly returning to the lineup next week, and Judge , as well as Chapman should be returning in 2 weeks as well. My opinion in this , is when they do comeback , try make sure that they feel comfertable What I mean by that is , make them feel that they could take their time, to hit their peak again because they have a group of guys , who are motivated to win, night in, and night out. Oh, and when they do, his team should be a lot better then they are now, and that’s a big statement! As for the Red Sox, they have Chris Sale out ( back), Christan Vazquez (hand), Rafael Devers (hamstring), and Eduardo Nunez( ankle) SO BASICALLY: So basically the Yankees need to win their series, especially against Boston, and have the stars come back stronger! Then, they will have a legit chance at beating the Red Sox. WILL THEY DO IT? I think they can, just one game at a time, and control what you can control, don't let your playing be affected if Boston wins, just keep playing your game!
