Patrick Mahomes threw for 4TDs and 294 yards, with Tyreke Hill hauling in two of them, as the Chiefs overcame the peaty Titans 35-24 on Sunday (1/19), in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead in KC.
With the win, the Chiefs advance to the Super Bowl for the 1st Time in 50 years.
KC started slow once again, as a FG and a Derek Hennry TD gave the Titans an early 10-0 lead. But Patrick Mahomes would answer, as he would find Tyreke Hill in the end zone for a TD that got KC on the board, and cut the Chiefs deficit down to 10-7.
A KELLy TD made it 17-7, but that would ultimately be the last touchdown for a while, as Mahomes ramped up there scoring and the KC defense rose up to stomp the Titans running attack.
After finding Kelce in the end zone once again, and getting a defensive stop, Patrick led his team down the field, before twisting and turning for an unbelievable 27 yard TD run late in the first half to give the Chiefs a 21-17 lead. Just like last week, they had erased an early deficit quickly and before halftime.
The second half was all Chiefs, as Mahomes kept showing off his amazing arm, while the KC defense kept Tennessee in check. In fact, it wasn’t until after Mahomes hit up Damien Williams and Sammy Watinks ,For what was an incredible 60 yard TD on both ends, with Mahomes making an amazing throw and Sammy hauling it in and taking it to the house for a 35-17 lead, that the Titans scored a TD, as Ryan Tanahill found Aaron Frikser for a late garbage time TD that made the final score 35-24.
When it was all set and done, Mahomes was center stage and rightfully so. He has proven himself as the best QB in the NFL, and has brought this KC team, despite it’s defensive woes, to Super Bowl 54 in Miami!
Unbelievable and Chiefs Kingdom deserves this AFC title as well, they have been loyal to the soil for years and finally get their shot with who people are calling “The Next Brady” as their QB.
