CLOCK HITS MIDNIGHT! METS CINDERELLA STRECH ENDS WITH LOSS TO NATS.

Coincidentally, just like their crosstown rivals this weekend, the Mets learned the harsh reality that “Streaks are meant to be broken”, as on Sunday the Mets 8 game winning streak was snapped when the Nationals finally edged out the Amazin's 7-4.

Washington took a 3-0 lead early, before giving it right back and almost gave up a 5-3 lead before hanging onto that as well.

The loss ends what was a very impressive 15-1 stretch from the Mets over the last 3 weeks.

Jacob Degrom didn’t have it early on, as the Nationals got to him and pushed across 3 runs in the first on a Pete Alonso throwing an error. But after that, Degrom held the Nats scoreless and went 4 scoreless innings before being pulled.

As for the Mets offense, they once again came right back, as recently acquired 2B Joe Panik notched an RBI single, before a surprise Degrom bunt single loaded the bases for Jeff McNeil who’s 2 run double tied the game at 3 after 2 innings of play and sent Citi Field into another frenzy!!!

In the top of the 7th, the Nationals once again took the lead late, as ex-met Asdrubal Cabrera, singled home two runs to give Washington a 5-3 lead, before the Mets came right back once again

A Jeff McNeil leadoff double in the bottom half of 7th, set up a Michael Conforto sac fly and all of a sudden the Mets had hope once again, as they only trailed 5-4.

But those hopes were dashed in the 9th when Victor Robles hit a 2run HR off Edwin Diaz that gave the Nationals a 7-4 lead as they would win by that score.

MVP: Asdrubal Cabrera

THOUGHTS:

You can’t win em all. From a Mets perspective, you took the series and have made yourselves known around the league. You have momentum, now keep it going.

Tough loss today, but I really can’t complain. This weekend was awesome! Friday night was the best Mets night of my whole life with last night being a close second! We took the series and now have momentum heading into Atlanta to face the division-leading Braves. We can do this!!

Let’s go Mets!
