COLE WORLD! GERRIT SHINES IN HOME DEBUT AS YANKEES WIN AGAIN!

The Yankees continued their winning ways on Monday night, taking advantage of a Phillies team that hasn’t played in 8 days due to the Marlins outbreak, winning it 6-3 behind a big game from Gio Urshela and another “Cole train” performance from Gerrit Cole.

Unlike last night, this game started well for the Yankees, as DJ LeMahieu led off the bottom of the first with a homer, that gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead, only to be answered by a Jay Bruce homer off Cole to tie the game at a run apiece. In the 3rd, a Brett Gardner oppo-taco homer and back to back doubles by Aaron Judge and Aaron Hicks put the Yankees in the lead 3-1. After Jake departed following the 5th inning, Gio Urshela went deep for a 3run back-breaking homer to push the Yankees advantage to 6-1. Meanwhile, 6 innings of 1 run ball from Gerrit Cole, kept the Yankees comfortable lead in tact.

The Phillies would tack on a couple of runs, after 1 hour and 7 minute rain delay, which saw Adam Hasely and Jean Segura notch RBI singles in the 7th and 8th, off Brooks Kriske and Luis Avilan, but Zack Brittion would enter in the 9th to once again shut the door, sealing a 6-3 Yankees victory, improving their record to 8-1 on the season.

MVP: Gio Urshela, as his 3 run bomb gave the Yankees the cushion they needed to walk away with the victory.

UP NEXT:

With bad weather tomorrow, the Yankees and Phillies have taken the rest of this series to Philadelphia, where they will play a doubleheader on Wednesday, with the series concluding on Thursday.

The Yankees will be designated as the “home team” in game 1, as JA Happ will battle Zach Wheeler. First pitch is at 4:05PM
