Once again on Saturday , the Yankees were forced to be faced with the known sayings for “Streaks are meant to be broken”, as they suffered their first loss when using the “Opener “ this season, as the Toronto Blue Jays rallied late to deal the Yankees their second straight loss 5-4 on Saturday afternoon (8/10) in Toronto.
For the first 3 innings, the bullpens ruled the duel as no runs were scored.
But that all changed when the 4th came, as Gary Sanchez went deep in his 1st game back from being off the IL to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
But in the bottom of the 4th, the Jays struck back, as Teoscar Hernandez destroyed a hanging fastball in the zone from Chance Adams, and demolished it to left field for a 3run blast that gave Toronto a 3-1 lead.
But the Yankees would answer right back in the 6th, as the red-hot Gio Urshela crushed a blast of his own, that brought in two runs to send this contest to the later innings tied at 3.
In the 7th, the Yankees took the lead (On a DJ LeMahieu sac fly) and gave it right back, as with his team down 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th with 2 on and 1 out, Vlad Gurreo JR ripped a 2run-triple to right field off Yankees reliver Adam Ottavino that gave the Blue Jays the lead and ultimately the win 5-4.
MVP: Vlad Gurreo JR
THOUGHTS:
Tip of the cap to Toronto today, they outplayed us. But from a Yankees perspective, if we win on Sunday, we split the series and that we will definitely take.
STATS TO KNOW:
The Yankees are now 11-1 in “Openers” this season.
That was Vlads first triple in the Major leagues!
HOLDER TO IL:
Before today’s game, the Yankees recalled Stephen Tarpley from Triple-A and placed reliver Jonothan Holder on the 10- day IL with right knee inflammation.

The Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound against Trevor Thornton of the Jays.
