FLAT WHEELS. ZACK GETS HAMMERED, AS BRAVES TAKE OPENER.

The story of the game was the “Wheels” falling off of Mets starter Zack Wheeler, as the Braves hammered him enough( As expected) to get the win 5-3 in game one of a pivotal 3 game series at Sun Trust Park in Atlanta. The loss drops the Mets to 9 games back in the NL East and with the WC leading Cardinals winning, dropped NY to 2 games back in the Wild Card race.

The Braves got to Wheeler early and often, as Josh Donaldson, Matt Joyce, Freddie Freeman and Ender Inciarte all drove in runs via “Small Ball”, while the HR ball continued to haunt Zach In this one, as he allowed a solo bomb to Ronald Acuna JR in the 4th.

When Wheeler was done, he had went 5 innings, allowed 5 runs on 12 hits and had 2Ks.

However, credit to Zack for keeping the Mets in the ballgame and limiting the damage to five runs to keep the Mets in

it.

As for the Mets offense, they were shut down by Max Freid, as he went 7 innings of 1 run ball with the lone run being on an RBI single by Jeff McNeil in the 2nd, That at the time cut the Mets deficit down to 2-1.

Down 5-1 in the 8th, the Mets tried to mount a comeback against closer Shane Green, as Pete Alonso and JD Davis opened the inning with singles, before a Wilson Ramos fielders choice knocked Green out of the game.

Ex-Met Jerry Blevins entered the game and with runners on the corners with one out, induced Michael Conforto into a fielders choice that scored a run and cut the Mets deficit down to 5-2.

Singles by Todd Frazier and Juan Lagres kept the inning alive and even brought a run home, but another EX-Met Anthony Swarzak relived Blevins and got Joe Panik to ground out with runners on 1st and second to end the threat, as that would be a close as the Mets got to rallying in this one as they would lose 5-3.

There was a scary moment in the 9th, as Jeff McNeil appeared to pull his hamstring on his way down to 1B and will be evaluated with his status uncertain.

MVP: Max Freid

THOUGHTS:

I said that if the Mets would Lose a game this series, it would be this one. I hope McNeil is okay, as he is a big part of this Mets lineup and one of the best hitters in the game.

Just get em against Keuchel on Tuesday on even this series.
