The Houston Astros got back in the win column, as Framber Valdez threw seven solid innings, Yordan Alvarez drove in a run and scored one, and Houston defeated the White Sox 3-2 on Wednesday night, ending Chicago’s five-game winning streak.
The AL-leading Astros( 76-43),dad the Mariners by 11 games for the Western lead.
The White Sox(61-57) trail the middling AL Central-leading Cleveland(63-55) by two games.
Valdez (12-4, 2.72 ERA) delivered his 20th consecutive quality start, matching a club record set by Mike Scott in his 1986 Cy Young Award season. The left-hander gave up two runs and seven hits, struck out six and walked three. He is 4-0 in six outings since losing to Oakland on July 9.
