The Two G’s lit up the Blue jays on Sunday (7/8) as the Yankees defeated Toronto 2-1 in 10 Innings, to win the 3 game series 2-1, and extend their lead in the season series over the Jays to 7-4. Domingo German pitched a gem , and Brett Gardner delivered the game wining hit on the 10th, while the Yankees bullpen pitched 4 scoreless innings in the win.
The pitching matchup pitted two young starters , Domingo German for the Yankees, and Richard Borucki for the Blue jays. Just like the previous game, the Yankees got to the Blue jays staff early and often, as after Stanton and Judge doubled in the top of the first Inning, Miguel Andujar induced an RBI groundout to force in a run and it’s 1-0 Yankees.
After that , Goruicki would settle down as he was amazing, going 7 Innings , while allowing 1 run on 7 hits meanwhile striking out 5.
As for Domingo German , whenever he got into jams , he always found a way to work out of them , for example in the bottom of the 4th , German escaped a bases loaded 2 out jam. He was brilliant, in putting away the Blue Jays . However, in the 6th inning , the Jays got to German , as Kendry Morales took German deep to tie the game at 1.
That inning would be it or German , as he went 6 innings , while allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 5. Both starters pitched brilliantly, but that still wasn’t enough to decide this contest , which now had to be handed over to the bullpen.
In the bottom of the 7th inning , Adam Warren got around the leadoff double , with 2 strikeouts , and a pop out , as well as keeping the game tied for the Yanks.
In the 8th Inning, Seunghwqn Oh got the job done for the Blue jays coming out of the bullpen, while Adam Warren once again was brilliant, as he also kept the game tied at 1, heading into the 9th.
Oh would do it again for the Jays in the 9th , while Yankees bullpen star, Chad Green , notched a 1,2,3 Bottom of the 9th to send this game to extra innings tied at 1.
In the 10th, former Yankee Tyler Clippard came into pitch for the Blue jays , and did something you wouldn’t want to do to a leadoff batter, hit him , and that’s exactly what Tyler did . So after Greg Bird was hit by a pitch to start the 10 inning, the Yankees pinch ran for him with Tyler Wade.
After a beautiful sac bunt by Austin Romine , Brett Gardner delivered for the Yankees , by lacing an RBI single to left field that brought in Wade and just like that , it was 2-1 Yankees!
In the bottom of the 10th David Robertson came in , and worked a 1,2,3 inning (with the last out being a fly out ), to preserve the Yankees 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays .
