GLEYBER HIRO DAY! MASA, TORRES LIFT YANKEES PAST STROS FOR 1-0 ALCS LEAD!

That was as close to a perfect game as you can get! Masahiro Tanaka went 6 scoreless and the red-hot Gleyber Torres drove in 5 runs as the Yankees blanked the Astros 7-0 in game 1 of this Best of 7 ALCS that began at Minute Maid Park in Houston on Saturday night (10/12).

The Yankees got to Zack Greinke in the 4th after working his pitch count from the beginning, as Gleyber Torres got it started with an RBI double to give the Yankees an early 1-0 lead. That lead would expand in the 6th, when Gleyber stepped up again and went deep, before Giancarlo Stanton followed with a blast of his own staking the Yankees out to a 3-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Masahiro Tanaka was brilliant as he went 6 scoreless innings on only 68 pitches and once again proved that he is a “Big game Pitcher” while lowering his playoff ERA to 1.32. Adam Ottavino , Zack Britton and Jonathan Losiga preserved the shutout for Tanaka.

The Yankees would continue to pour it in in the 7th off the Astros bullpen, as Torres stepped up again with the bases loaded and 2 outs this time, and he delivered, as on a full count he blooped a single into right field that brought home two more runs to push the Yankees lead to 5-0. In the 9th, Gio Urshela smacked his 1st postseason HR before Gleyber Torres drove in another run with an RBI groundout that made it 7-0 and gave Gleyber 5RBIS on the game.

Also lost in the fire was an amazing double play by Aaron Judge who caught a Yordon Alvarez drive and nabbed the runner out at 1st.

MVP: Gleyber Torres

LVP: Zack Greinke
