GRIZZE'D: DUO-LESSNETS FALL LATE IN OT

After getting the news ; they would be missing Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving due to “Load management”, Spencer Dinwidee will miss the rest of the season, due to a partially torn ACL, the Brooklyn Nets bench proved once again how capable they are, with their stellar play.

They pushed the Memphis Grizzlies to extra time, before eventually losing 116-111

Monday night (12/29), at Barclays Center.

The game was tightly-contested all night long, with ties, and lead-changes as both teams went back and forth, with Memphis looking for their first win of the season. The Grizzlies would open up a 41-25 lead, early in second quarter, but only for Brooklyn to be brought back led by the emerging Timothy Luwaue-Cabaroot (21 points), and future all-star, Caris Levert, with the Nets going on a 16-4 run to cut the deficit to four at, 45-41. Late in half, with the point differential still at four, Grizzlies star, and the reigning Rookie of the Year winner, JA Morant went up for a block, and landed awkwardly on his ankle, and was immediately in pain, hopping off the floor, and was wheeled to the locker room. After the game, Memphis announced that X-rays were negative, but JA will go for an MRI on Tuesday. Up to that point, it had been Kyle Andreson in the midst of a career-night for the visitors, but Morant’s presence on the floor, still had a way of reliving the pressure off his teammates, and with him gone, it deflated the team. The waning seconds of the first half saw Caris Levert, float up a buzzer-beater, and successfully make it, putting the finishing touches, on a stellar beginning to this game, giving the Nets a 55-54 lead at the break.

The second half saw more or Kyle Anderson, and another Memphis youngster in Dilon Brooks (24 points) get going, while the Nets led by Levert, Allen, and Chris Chiozza, did their part in keeping this contest a sea-saw battle. Down 87-85 headed into the fourth, Brooklyn received some big buckets, by Jeff Green, and Deandre Jordan, while the Grizzlies saw Jonas Valancinuas, head to free throw line late in regulation down 106-104, and sink both to keep the visitors alive.

Brooklyn would have a chance to win it, but Levert’s trey rolled off the rim, forcing overtime.

The extra session saw a battle between Caris (28 points on the night) and the Grizzlies starters, such as Brandon Clark, Grayson Allen, and Tyrus Jones, with Clark’s tip-in giving Memphis a 112-111 lead, with under a minute to go.

Down 113-111, and eight seconds on the game-clock, the Nets gave it to Joe Harris(14 points), who heaved a three, which was off the mark, before some Kyle Andreson(28 pints) free-throws sealed the 116-111 win for the Grizzlies.
