HAMMER TIME: YANKEES ROUT A’S WIN 4TH STRAIGHT.

Giancarlo Stanton returned from the injured list and hit a two-run single to go with a n RBI bases-loaded walk, Josh Donaldson doubled twice and drove in three runs, and New York pounded the Oakland Athletics 13-4 on Thursday night. Stanton played for the first time since being sidelined since July 24 with left Achilles tendinitis and went 1 for 4 with a two run double in the second, and an RBI walk in the third. Ex-Yankee James Kaprielian was tagged for a career-high eight earned runs, matched his career high with six walks and gave up seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. New York plated four in the second, as Isiah Kiner Falefa and Stanton mashed line drive hits to bring home

two runs apiece, and a quick 4-0 Bombers advantage. An RBI double by Josh Donaldson, a sac fly by Andrew Benentendi, a walk to Stanton with the bases filled, and an Anthony Rizzo RBI infield single stretched the lead to 8-0 after three innings. The fourth wouldn’t present much reprieve for Oakland, as a booming double by Jose Trevino, and an Aaron Judge groundout made it 10-0. Jamison Taillion allowed merely rookie Shea Langeliers’ solo homer in the sixth, succumbing a run, six hits, with two strikeouts. Netsor Cortes going to the IL Thursday with a groin strain meant New York needed a pitcher and it was time for Greg Weissert to make his MLB debut. Only, it couldn’t have been worse as he plunked

Jonah Bride, before balking him to second, and walked two more batters following a flyout and his woeful evening was over. Donaldson doubled home two more in the seventh, preceding an Oswaldo Cabrera sac fly amassing the lucky number 13 on the scoreboard for the Bombers in their fourth straight win.
