Homer Bailey shut down the Yankees once again and the A’s bats got to Domingo German as Oakland took game one of a pivotal 3 game series 6-2 over the Yankees Tuesday night (8/20) in Oakland.
The win puts the A’s in a tie with the Rays for the second AL WC.
The Yankees got off to a good start in this one, as Gary Sanchez went deep in the top of the 1st for a solo shot, before German gave it right back in the bottom half, as Matt Olson (2runHR) and Mark Cahana went deep for back to back jacks to give Oakland a 3-1 lead after 1.
The A’s would continue to pour it on German after that, as Marcus Semian and Stephen Piscotty would rack up RBI hits that would drive in 3 runs and put the A’s up 6-1 after 6.
As for the Yankees bats, Homer Bailey once again shut them down, as he went 5.2 innings of 1 run ball with 8Ks. Aaron Judge would end his Homerless drought in the 8th with a 467FT solo shot in the 8th, but that wasn’t nearly enough as the A’s took the opener of this 3 game series 6-2.
MVP: Homer Bailey
THOUGHTS:
Tough loss but it’s fine get em tomorrow. It’s one game and there is still time left to win this series we can do this!
Personally tonight, the silver lining for me is that Jonothan Losiga went 2.2 scoreless innings and saved the pen in relief of German so our core guys are well rested.
FAN OPINIONS:
Eli Reuben:
Tough loss. Annoyed because i stayed up so late, my confidence in our starting pitching went down a bit and our offense didnt play their best. It was nice to see Judge finally go deep and Losiga pitch well though despite the loss.
Must win the next two in order to take the series which they can definitely do. Let’s go Yankees!!
UP NEXT:
The Yankees will look to even the series on Tuesday night (8/21) when they send JA Happ to the mound to take on Mike Fiers.
Game time is 10:07 PM.
