HOW SWEEP 16 IT IS! YANKEES BEAT O’S ONE LAST TIME IN 2019!

Gary Sanchez blasted a 3run HR and Gleyber Torres set more records as the Yankees once again defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 in their final meeting of the 2019 season. The win is the Yankees 17th against Baltimore this season (16th straight) in 19 tries and it officially eliminates the O’s (38-82) from the AL East race.

As they have done in every game this series, the Yankees started this one with a bang as down 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st (On a Jonathan Villar RBI single), the Yankees bats immediately came to life as Didi Gregorious singled home a run down the right field line before Gary Sanchez demolished a 3run blast off O’s starter Dylan Bundy to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.

Then, up 4-2 in the 7th, Mike Ford provides what was ultimately some much needed insurance runs as he lined a 2run single to right to double the Yankees lead to 6-2.

As for Yankees starter JA Happ, he had a rough start to his outing as he needed 33 pitches to get through the first inning before settling down as he finished his outing with 4 innings of 1 run ball (With the lone run being a Pedro Severino RBI single in the 3rd) and left after 5 with a 4-2 lead.

Then in the 7th, looking to complete his second straight scoreless inning, Luis Cessa lost his command and Baltimore pounced, scoring 3 runs to get back in the game and cut the Yankees lead down to 6-5.

But as they had done so many times this season, the big 3 of Adam Ottavino, Zack Brittion and Aroldis Chapman came in and locked the game and the sweep down 6-5.

MVP: Gary Sanchez

SERIES MVP:

Gleyber Torres

THOUGHTS:

Sweeeeeep! Win sweet 16 in a row against these guys! Great to see Gary stay hot since coming back from the IL with that blast, great job by Happ limiting the damage and the big 3 to end it!

Great job taking care of business and going 17-2 against these guys this season as well.

40 games over .500! Let’s keep it rolling!!

!

STATS TO KNOW:

Gleyber Torres become the first player since Mickey Mantle to record 17 extra-base-hits against a single team in a single season .

The Yankees 16 game winning streak against the O’s is the best against a single team in a single season in the Divisional Era (1969).

Gary Sanchez finished with 10HRs against Baltimore this season. With his teammate Gleyber Torres having 13 against the O’s this year, Gary and Gleyber are the first pair of teammates in the Divisional Era to have double-digit HRs against a single team in a single season in Franchise History..

The Yankees went 12-7 against the O’s last year. This year they went 17-2.

FAN OPINIONS:

ELI REUBEN:

SWEEP!!!

Not our best game today but I’ll take it! Not the best performance by Happ but I’m glad he only allowed two runs.

I’m so happy that Gary is back hitting bombs! It truly is a great sight to see!

I think Aaron Judge needs to work on hitting, he is getting good swings but just not swinging at the right pitches. However, I’m happy the offense is great as a whole and we keep on winning!

Let’s go into the Indians series and keep on rolling!

UP NEXT:

The Yankees (81-41) will now gear up for the red-hot Cleveland Indians (72-49), who come to the Bronx for a big 4 game series beginning Thursday that could have Playoff and AL seeding implications.

The Yankees will go with an “Opener “ to start this series as Chad Green will go for the Yankees against Adam Plutko of the Indians.

Game time is 7:05PM.
