Not even the rain can stop these Mets.
Noah Syndergaard tossed a gem and the Mets offense did enough against Aaron Clivare to complete a pivotal 3 game sweep of the Cleveland Indians 2-0 on Thursday night (8/22) at a packed Citi Field.
“Thor” came out firing on all cylinders as he retired the first 17 men he faced before the Indians finally made a small dent in his armor by getting a couple of hits, but Noah got out of the 6th unscathed due to an all-out diving play by Pete Alonso who’s flip to Noah at1B to end the inning required a chest bump afterward. That was “Thor’s “ last pitch of the night as the rain came shortly thereafter with the Mets nursing a 2-0 lead on a Wilson Ramos RBI double in the 4th off Indiana starter Aaron Clivare Who otherwise had a great night going 5.2 innings holding the Mets offense to only 2 runs.
In the bottom of the 6th, the rain came stopping play as the teams went through an hour and a half rain delay before coming back out and leaving again in the 8th as the rain came down with the Mets leading 2-0. Ultimately, the rain was too much and the umpires called the game in favor of the Mets with Paul Sewald and Jeurys Familia having locked the 7th and 8th down.
