James Paxton bested Justus Sheffield as DJ LeMahieu led the way for the Yankees fwho competed a series sweep of the Mariners with a 7-3 win on Wednesday (8/28) in Seattle.
The Yankees magic number to clinch the AL East is now down to 17.
The Yankees started this game with a bang as Gary Sanchez mashed his 30th HR of the season to left for a 2runHR that gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead off former teammate Justis Sheffield in the 1st.
Later, with the game tied at 2 in the 5th, Mike Ford stepped up and crushed a solo shot that gave the Yankees the lead again at 3-2. Later in the inning, a Austin Romine double and a DJ LeMahieu RBI single set the stage for the red-hot Aaron Judge who demolished a 2run shot that extended the Yankees lead to 6-2.
In the 9th, DJ blasted one of his own that extended the Yankees lead to 7-2.
As for the the Yankees pitching, James Paxton only gave up one hit in 5 innings of work which was a 2run blast by Kyle Seager that tied the game at 2 in the 4th. However, Paxton would settle down and though he only went 5 innings and 86 pitches and walked 5 Mariners, he limited the damage and kept the Yankees in front as he left with a 6-2 lead.
