WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE YANKEES? : Glad you asked , well the last time we talked about the Bomers, was on July 9th, when they were headed to Baltimore for a double header.
well what happened? the Yankees shockingly split the double header, and then went on to split the 4 game series. It started a trend of these series losses /splits, as the yankees then split a 4 game set with the Cleveland Indians, heading into the All StarBreak. Meanwhile, the team the Yankees were chasing, the Boston Red Sox pulled away from the Yankees , and took a 4 game lead in the Al east over the Bomers at the break . In the all star game, the Yankees shined , as Aaron Judge went deep, and Luis Severino pitched a clean inning , as the ALdefeated the NL 8-6 in 10 innings. It was a game that featured 10 homers! But when the second half of the season started, the Yankees once again, went to average baseball, as they split series with the Mets , and then lost one to the Rays, before finally wining a series against the lowly Royals .However, I want to stop for a moment and say that the Yankees made some acquisitions over the final weeks of July , as they acquired two Red Sox slayers, Lance Lyyn, and Ja Happ , and added them to their starting rotation. The Yankees also added some more strength to their already stacked bullpen , with the addition of Zach Brittion. In these trades , the Yankees lost Brandon Drury , Tyler Austin , Billy Mckinny, and in a different trade, they lost reliver Adam Warren to the Seattle Mariners. The Yankees were dealt a huge blow on (7/26) when Aaron Judge was hit in the wrist, by Kandas City Royals pitcher Jake Junis, and ultimately left the game, and it was after the Yankees 7-2 victory over the Royals , that the Yankees announced Judge would be out for 3 weeks with a broken wrist. Well here we are, exactly 21 days after Judge got hurt, and he has not returned yet, as the Yankees announced that he will be out for at least another 2 weeks. well what happened after the Royals series? ,well the Yankees shockingly split a 2 game set with the Orioles , then went into Fenway park in Boston ,for a 4 game set, trailing Boston by 5.5 games in the division.
What happened next has to be the worst part of the Yankees season so far, as they were demolished in 4 games by Boston, which put them up a whooping 9.5 games ,and put the divisional but officially to bed. What stings from that series for me, is the way the Yankees lost the series finale. After surviving a vintage David Price performance, the Yankees found themselves down only 1-0, thanks to Masahiro Tanaka, who matched Prie, desire letting up a HR in the 5th. The Red Sox may be the best team in the league, but if one thing is for sure, their bullpen is their weakness, and the Yankees pounced , by scoring 4 runs in the 7th inning and taking a 4-1 lead! Plus, the way Delin Betances, and Zach Brittion pitched in the 7th and 8th , the Yankees looked poised fora win entering the bottom of the 9th. The Yankees star closer, Aroldis Chapman , came in and got within one strike of wining the game ,before everything unraveled. Yes, that's right, 1 strike, with runners on first and second with 2 outs, Chapman, walked Steve Pearce , on a full count to load the bases with the red hot JD Martinez due up for Boston, who lined a first pitch 2 run single to right center field , to give the Red Sox life, at 4-3. Then, on a Miguel Andujar error, the RedSox tied the game, and forced it to extra innings. In extra innings , Jonathan Holder came into pitch and served up the game wining RBI to Andrew Bennntendi , to complete the Red Sox 4 game sweep of the Yankees. Since that crushing loss, week and half ago, the Yankees swept the White Sox in 3 games, and took 3 out of 4 from the lowly Texas Rnges, before losing the subway series to the Mets, and then shockingly losing 2 out of 3 in the bronx to the Tampa bay Rays.
