INFERIOR EMPIRE: YANKEES LIGHTWORKED BY LOWLY BOSOX.

Pitching for the first time in almost seven weeks, Micheal Wacha returned from a shoulder injury that had sidelined him since late June, and slayed the Yankees , as last-place Boston battered the first-place Yankees 3-0 on Sunday night for their first series win against a divisional opponent this season.

It all lasted 2 hours, 15 minutes — tying for the shortest game between the two teams since 1994.

Rafael Devers homered, and Tommy Pham had three hits for the Red Sox, who’ve pulled within 7-6 of the Yankees in the season series score.

New York has lost nine of its last 11 games, 20 of its past 31, and are a putrid 8-15 since the All-Star break, second-worst in the AL.

However, their all-time start still has them at a double-digit lead in the division; the Red Sox(57-59) are seventh in the race for the AL’s three wild-card spots, trailing the sixth seeded Blue Jays(61-53) by five games.

Ryan Brasier pitched a perfect eighth and Garrett Whitlock pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save, striking out Judge to end a nine-pitch at-bat and then getting Josh Donaldson on a slow bouncer that second baseman Christian Arroyo bare-handed to make the throw to first and seal the two-hitter. Wacha finishedw with a dazzling like of seven scoreless frames, nine strikeouts(Two on Judge helping end his 14 game son base streak), and a walk.

Jameson Taillon (11-3, 3.95ERA) yielded three runs on six hits, striking out four to pick up his first loss since July 5.
