Thursday night showed why that in my opinion, the HR derby should be in Yankee stadium every year, because HRs will fly out of the park just like in this game!
Eight HRs flew out of the park tonight, but unfortunately for the Yankees, they were the ones left devastated, as the Detroit Tigers outslugged the Bombers in the Bronx, 5HRs to3, in an 8-7 victory.
Coming into tonight's game, I didn't expect this, the Yankees sent the red hot JA Happ to the mound to face off against Fransisco Lirano of the Tigers.
Right off the bat , you knew it was going to be a slugfest , as Jemiar Caledoriano blasted the fifh pitch of the game to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
The Yankees would bounce back in historic fashion however, as Giancarlo Stanton laced a 2 run HR to right for his 300th career HR in the third Ining to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead!
But the Tigers would rally , as Ronny Rodriguez would blast a 2 run shot to left , to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead in the 4th.
However, in the bottom half of the Inning , the Yankees would answer as Gleyber Torres would mash a 2 run Hr , but only to be answered by Victor Martinez a half an injng later , as his 2 run shot gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead .
After tying the game on an error in the bot of the 5th, the Yankees would take the lead in the 7th as Luke Voit blasted a 2 run shot , which seemed to be the dagger , as the game continued, but in the 9th it all went south for the Yankees.
Delin Betances came in for the Yankees to try and close it out , and it looked like he would , as he struck out the first batter , to continue his streak as he now has struck out at least one batter in 35 consecutive appearances! But then Delin gave up a single, and back to back HRs to Martinez, and Goodrum,to give the Tigers the lead, and ultimately an 8-7 victory.
HERO: Niko Goodrum ZERO: Delin Betances , UNSUNG HERO: Victor Martinez
Giancarlo Stanton became the 5th fastest player ever to 300 career HRs.
VIctor Martinez continues to be a Yankee slayer with 2 HRs, and 4RBIS in this game .
INJURY NEWS:
The Yankees announced that Gary Sanchez will make his return on Saturday, as it will be the first time since, July 23rd that he plays , since he re- injured his groin that game .
UP next
The Yankees will look to rebound after this devastating loss, and even the series on Friday night , when Luis Severino will go for the Yankees, while Jordan Zimmermen will go for the Tigers .
