The third-fourth grade restaurant league produced an abundance of slugfests, and “Grand salami’ making for a compelling and riveting week of action in what was to an enrapturing season permeated with bombast heroics to uplifting kids summers and if he won it all, his upcoming winter. Here’s a day by day rapture of the final weeks action:
As the regular season came to a close, there was much yet to be decided in Butchie Ball. Aside from Holy Schnitzel who’d long ago clinched the eighth seed, 1-7 seeds had yet to be determined as well as the home run and RBI leaders. What followed was the most captivating slew of games we saw at JDSA this summer.
RETRO GRILL 14 SLICES 0
In their most complete showing of the season, Joe Ades went deep thrice, part of a six RBI game, Benny Mizrahi got ahold of one for a two run bomb, Victor Antebi socked back-back two run jobs, and even Solly Turkieh blasted a tater over the fence as Retro Grill bludgeoned Slices with a 14 run onslaught. However, the team was more fixed on the defensive side, imperative to winning come postseason time, and we’re immaculate in their execution of it this fortnight.
PIZZA PLUS 4 EAT N RUN 2
Eddie Imani, David Hasbani, and David Raoul notched multi- hit nights as streaking Pizza Plus looks tuned up and ready to roll as we head into the playoffs, nabbing the one seed despite their tedious start to the season.
GLATT BITE 14 ESSEN 11
In a battle that saw two teams in dire of offensive jolts, they brought the lumber to this one. Ultimately, Abie Vziel became the first player to reach 50+ hits in camp history since stat tracking began, and Yehuda Bearkat, Hymie Anteby , Joe Zafrani(3RBIs) Simon Leviov(three RBIs) had multi-hit nights. But the showstopper was Mark Edelstein who made his “Mark” on the contest with an astonishing three homer, eight RBI contest, enough to propel GLATT Bite to victory as they finished the regular season at 500.
MIKES CHICKEN 7 HOLY SCHNITZEL 3
Ayash Saff went yard for two and Raymond Chakalo had three RBIs as Mikes Chicken locked up the four seed with a 7-3 victory over Holy Schnitzel who’ll turn their attention to upsetting top seeded Pizza Plus in the playoffs.
SLICES 9 MIKE'S CHICKEN 4
Ezra Gindi hit a three run HR, Yitzhak Cohen one upped that with a grand slam, and Billy Kassab hit a homer en route to a 9-4 Slices win, as they secured the fifth seed.
EAT N RUN 17 GLATT BITE 12
It was this game that received the “home run derby” award, where Eat N Run did enough to notch the win. Homering were Morris Saada, Allan Fallas, Morris Yedid, Moshe Eliau, and Jacob Jemal. However, without the bat of Jacob Orfali, Eat N run would’ve been fit for a tie instead of a win. Jacob went yard twice and had five RBIs, uplifting his team to the winners circle.
