MY COLOR WAR EXPERIENCE:
I had the privilege of refereeing some Color War hockey and decided to jot down how these games went.
GAME 1; AISH 5 ZAHAV 1
Red put their pedal to the medal early in this one and were led by the superstar tandem of Eli Cohen and Aryeh Warren, with Eli luring defenders with his magnificent puck handling and would often find Warren in the slot who would take care of the rest for some sweet finishes. From start to finish this was a wire-wire beatdown by Aish, who obtained 43 color points in the victory.
RED:
Aryeh Warren 4 goals
Ralph Sitt 1 goal
Elliot Cohen 5 assists
Yellow:
Teddy Serure goal (1-4)
Goaltending:
W: Victor Antebi
GAME 2: ZAHAV 4 AISH 1
RED GOAL:
Shaya Fallas
YELLOW GOALS:
David Franco(1-1)
Chucky Abadi (2-1)
Raymond (3-1)
Chucky Abadi (4-1)
This was a chippy and physical affair as goals came at a premium and offenses were at a standstill. Shaya rifled one home for a quick Red lead, but once David Franco pounced on a gruesome Red turnover, Yellow were off and running, as Chucky Abadi banged one home minutes later to seize a 2-1 lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Red was able to apply sustainable pressure in the offensive zone, but we’re stonewalled by the “Great wall of Yellow” that was their defense. As the clock wound down, Ray gave his team insurance with a goal and Abadi added his second for good measure sealing GM the victory.
GAME 3:
AISH 3 ZAHAV 2 F/OT
Arthur Azar kicked this one off with a tally less than a minute in, meaning that Red scored first in all 3 contests. After doubling their lead moments later, it seemed as if another blowout was on our hands, but Yellow had other ideas as Ezra Kassab socked one home and was the catalyst for the comeback as Yellow eventually tied it to force overtime. In front of a raucous gym crowd, Raymond Nakash slipped one past the goaltender to uplift Red to an exhilarating victory, to the hockey portion of color war.
Alas, it was ZAHAV who emerged as the 2022 Color War champions by a mere six total points. Congratulations to everyone on the winning team!
