It was an interesting week in Knicks nation, with them finally honoring an amazing stretch in recent history, celebrating their first championship 50 years to the day, and looking ahead to the present and future of the organization. Let’s dive right in!
LINSANITY WEEK:
Finally, the Knicks give him the tribute he deserved, by MSG airing his greatest moments and even having several interviews with him. Jermny Lin captured the hearts of NBA fans everywhere, leading the Knicks charge towards the playoffs and doing it at a rapid and historic pace. In a span of two weeks, the Knicks went from 2-11 in their last 13 games, to the hottest team in basketball, all because of a player who came off the end of the bench and never looked back in 2012, Jermny Lin.
Lin is now an NBA champion with the Raptors, and currently plays in the Chinese league, where he has taken on another wave of Linsanity over there.
50 YEARS TO THE DAY... KNICKS WIN FINALS:
50 years ago today, the “Willis Reed game” happened, where he suddenly came back from a knee injury and scored 4 quick points to get the Knicks off and running, en route to a 113-99 victory in game 7 over the Lakers, clinching the NYK’s first-ever title.
CP3 rumors:
The Knicks have 7 first round picks in the upcoming 2020-2022 NBA drafts, as well as some nice trade assets in Reggie Bullock, Frank Natikila and Wayne Ellington.
One player the Knicks brass is looking at, is veteran and future Hall of Famer Chris Paul, who currently plays for the OKC Thunder. Paul, has led a young and rebuilding OKC team, to the 5th seed in the Western Conference only fueling the Knicks intrest in him.
I for one, can’t get behind this move because even though it would bring a “Culture change” to Knicks Basketball, the $44 million a year on his contract, as well as the fact that the Knicks can maybe be patient and wait to use their trade assets for someone else, preferably a young-star would be nice.
That being said, I have nothing against Chris Paul and I love watching him play; but I can’t get behind it because I feel better options will arise and I don’t see this happening overall. But if it does, I won’t be too mad if that was the best you could do.
KNICKS EXTEND PERRY:
My first reaction to the Knicks extending GM Scott Perry was “Oh man”, as Perry was on the final year of his deal and the Knicks seemed to be moving in a new direction under new team president Leon Rose. But they extend Perry, and when I thought about it some more, I understood the move for these reasons
• He May have been the only option, as they were unable to get anyone else interested like Masai Ujiri of the Toronto Raptors
•He’s been around basketball a long time, and even though he struggled with Steve Mills, Scott has a new partner in Rose, where all potential moves must go through him, before eventually heading to Dolan’s desk.
That being said, I’m anxious to see what Leon Rose has in store for the Knicks, in what I hope starts a 5-7 year plan to the top of the NBA mountain.
What do you guys think?
