The Knicks have made a move that seems to point the manegment in the right direction. This week, they fired team president Steve Mills and replaced him with sports agent Leon Rose. The team also traded leading scorer Marcus Morris to the LA Clippers in exchange for veteran Moe Harkless and 2 draft picks (one 1st and a 2nd.)
We will see what Rose could do in the offseason, as that’s when GM Scott Perry’s contract expires, and he is likely to be let go. So who will Rose hire as the GM, as well as the new coach of the Knicks? We will see!
As for Mills, this wasn’t a surprise as the Knicks have went downhill ever since he has joined the team. With him as the president, NYK went 178-365 (.328 winning %), which was the worst record in the NBA during that span. Mills knows his stuff, but it didn’t work here. We will see if he gets hired elsewhere.
As for the Morris trade, the Knicks could’ve done better here. It’s upsetting, because Morris has been the MVP of the Knicks thus far, being a leader and clutch in big moments, but now he has been traded to a contending Clippers team which he deserves to be on.
The return for him troubles me, as Harkless isn’t as good as Marcus and two picks aren’t enough for me, in terms of the value Morris had on the market this year.
Another pick or another player would’ve evened it out here. Maybe youngster Landry Shamet or a second round pick?
I wasn’t expecting this to be a trade that changes the franchise backwards or fowards, but it was nice seeing Morris keep us in games and give other teams a scare. What I’m looking for the rest of the way, is a respectable team that can get to 30 wins here.
I expected 35 coming into this year, but it doesn’t seem likely with all of these changes and trades.
TRADE DEADLINE RECAP VIA ESPN:
“Nine went down on NBA trade deadline day. Here are some of the biggest:
• D-Lo to Minnesota (Andrew Wiggins, a 1st and 2nd rounder to GSW)
• Iguodala to Miami( Dion Waiters and Josh Winslow to Miami)
• Drummond to Cavs( Knight and Hensen also go to CLE, 2RD pick goes back to DET) “
Thoughts on D-Lo trade:
Well, we all knew this was happening since the summer right? Good job by Russel to boost his value and he did an amazing job at handling the situation like a pro. He did all he could for the Warriors, and they should show him some love in his return to the Bay with Minnesota.
As for what GSW got, nice job here! When Curry and Klay come back, they could be a dynamic front court with Wiggins.
As for the Wolves, they gave up picks and Wiggins to get D-Lo which is fine. The Warriors walk away feeling good, and you guys walk away now having a star to pair KAT with. Onto getting more good players now and surrounding these two youngsters with some good talent!
Winner: Even
Thoughts on Drummond trade:
Look Detroit, i understand you guys traded Andre Drummond, because he was almost certainly going to walk in FA but the return? I didn’t believe it at first, because it was that little.
The thing is, you could’ve gotten maybe another 2RD pick because Knight and Hens seem to be salary dumps here, or include someone else in here.
They could do better than only a 2nd RD pick. Not that bad, but I feel this has to not only be it. Maybe we will see something in the offseason, because can’t only be it, they could go the extra mile and get a little more out of a trade like this.
Then again, DET wasn’t making the playoffs this year anyway, so I get starting rebuild early!
As for the Cavs, Drummond will play alongside Collin Sexton and Kevin Love. Kevin has another guy to mentor Sexton now. Nice!
Thoughts on IGGY Trade:
These guys are going for it! The Heat (34-17), currently sit 4th in the Eastern Conference, and now add a former DPOY (Defensive player of the year), in Andre.
As for Memphis, they got back some young guys to help their rebuild.
