Takeaways from The Last Dance this past Sunday:
•Dennis Rodman was really a key part in the Bulls dynasty with his amazing rebounding skills. The work-ethic that he shows is insane!
•The “48 hour trip to Las Vegas” for Rodman in the middle of the season was hilarious! He was listed “DNP (Vegas)” while away. Donovan Mitchell said it best, “Dennis Rodman creates load management”.
• The amazing scouting by GM Jerry Krause and great cohesive coaching by the 11-time champion Phil Jackson kept the Bulls afloat during that last season of the dynasty (1998) and even before that, whenever things looked to be falling apart between management and within the players as well.
•Jordan wouldn’t have been “MJ” without those Pistons failures:
From 1988-1990, the Bulls season ended at the hands of the “Bad Boy Pistons”, led by Hall of Fame member Isaih Thomas, defeating the Bulls twice in 7 games with the 1990 victory coming in the Eastern Confrence Finals.
MJ worked harder than ever to get over the “Bad Boy hump” and he did, sweeping the Pistons next season in the ‘91 ECF, on the way to his first of 6 championships later that Spring.
SPORTSMANSHIP COMES FIRST:
The reason why there was (And still is) a beef between MJ’s Bulls and those Pistons Is because of lack of sportsmanship between the two sides. They trashed talked a lot and the Pistions refused to shake hands with Chicago after they fell in the ‘91 playoffs.
This teaches us, that you must respect your opponent and show sportsmanship to the other side, which is part of the “Fairness” of the game of your choice.
