In a thrilling game, the Saint Louis Blues defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-2 in the second game of the Western Conference finals to notch home ice advantage in the series, as it’s tied 1-1 with game 3 in Saint Louis on Tuesday.
The Blues came hot out of the gates, as two minutes in, Jaden Scwratz roofed one past Marc Jones to give the Blues an early 1-0 lead. For the rest of the first, the Sharks ramped up the offensive pressure, but were unable to get one past Blues goalie Jordan Binnington as the 1st period ended with the Blues up 1-0.
In the second, the Blues added to their lead when Victor Dunn sent one home to give the Blues a 2-0 lead just over 4 minutes into the second period.
But the Sharks would rally, and fight back in front of their home crowd, as the Blues started being careless with the puck, and the Sharks took advantage, as just 39 seconds after Dunn’s goal, Logan Courtre intercepted a Blues pass, and took it all the way down for a breakaway goal to get the Sharks on the board, and cut the Blues lead down to 2-1. Then, minutes later, Coutre struck again, as Tino Meir fed him a pass that he collected and roofed one past Binnington to tie the game at 2, and seemingly deflate the Blues in game 2.
But late in the second period, the Blues came alive, as Tyler Bozak found Jordan Edmusnson who found Robert Buttuzo who socked one by Jones to give the Blues a 3-2 lead after two periods of play.
In the 3rd, the game was back and forth, with both goaltenders stepping up in net, keeping their teams in the game. But with just over 3 minutes remaining, Alexander Steen fed Omar Sunquist who dashed the Sharks game 2 hopes by backhanding one past Jones to give the Blues a 4-2 lead, as they would hang on for the win.
