Hey everyone, after a short break. Just wanted to give an update on what has been happening in terms of sports returning and what has happened “On this day in sports” as well the past week and a half.
MLB: We have finally arrived at this very moment. The picture has cleared a whole lot with the MLBPA halting the back-and forth standoff after the meeting owners offered a 72 game season with 83% in full prorated salaries, 17% shy of the players demands. This proposal, rejected by the union would give players 37% of their yearly salaries, rising up from potentially 33% in recent offers.
On Saturday, the players told MLB this, “Tell us when and where by Monday”. Meaning that the players have requested a final offer from the owners on how they would like the season to go. This can go two ways,
The owners make an offer that is over 50 games and full prorated salaries, the players accept and we have a season starting in mid-July.
The owners make a proposal that doesn’t have full prorated salaries, and the players reject it, only delaying the likely plan implemented by Rob Manfred of a 50 game season with full prorated salaries.
MLS: The return date has been announced. It’s July 8th.
