The white-hot Wilson Ramos had 4 hits and the Mets bullpen held the Phillies in check as the Mets notched their second straight win 6-3 over the Phillies on Saturday (8/31) in Citzens Bank Park.
The win pulls the Mets within 4 games in the NL WC race.
Former Met Jason Vargas started for the Phillies and got bashed by his former team as Wilson Ramos got the party going with an RBI single to extend his hitting streak to 24 games and give the Mets a 1-0 lead in the 1st.
Then tied at 1 in the 3rd, Michael Conforto stepped up and delivered an RBI double before Todd Frazier and Joe Panik(2run double) doubles home runs in the 5th that gave the Mets a commanding 5-1 lead.
Up 5-3 in the 9th, Frazier put the nail in the Phillies coffin with an RBI single that gave the Mets a 6-3 lead.
Steven Matz started for the Mets and did a good job limiting the damage as after he allowed a leadoff triple to Jean Segura in the 1st, Matz settled down and kept the Mets even Steven only allowing that Jean run on a Bryce Harper RBI groundout.
In the 6th, Bryce Harper went deep off Matz to put a dampen on what was otherwise an amazing performance by Matz as he went 5 innings of 2 run ball and even though he left the game with the bases loaded with Phillies and 0 outs, he still did a good job of keeping the Mets in it.
After Matz departed, Luis Avilan entered with the bases juiced and 0 outs and somehow allowed only one run which was a walk by Luis that forced in a run. Avilan was able to get out of the jam by inducing a double play ball to preserve the Mets lead.
In the 9th, Seth Lugo came In to seal the deal as the Mets clinched the series over the Phillies with a 6-3 win.
