This March is officially full of madness. The sweet 16, saw underdogs become overdogs with some more big upsets, and brackets being busted. However, we did see more of the remaining favorites prevail as the tournament plot thickens,
SWEET 16:
(12) OREGON STATE OVER (8) LOYOLA CHICAGO 65-58:
In a battle of two cinderella stories, Oregon State pulled away late to advance to their first-ever Elite eight.
(1) BAYLOR OVER (5) VILLANOVA 62-51
The Wildcats tried to show down the Bears, with their zone defense, and it showed with Baylor struggling from three early, and Nova taking a 30-20 advantage into the halftime break. But the second half saw the one seed ranch up the intensity, and rally for a 62-51 win, putting them in the final eight for the first time since 2012.
(3) ARKANAS. OVER (15) Oral Roberts 72-70
This had the makings of a classic, with the Razorbacks overcoming a 12 point deficit to even the game late, and when Dillion Smith hit “The shot heard around Arkanas” with 3.1 left, it seemed Oral Roberts had no fight left in them. But then miraculously, they quickly got the ball up the court, into the hands, of Matt Abass, who got a good look at the three, and the Golden Eagles faithful watched, as the ball hung in the air. Unfortunately for the darlings of the tournament, it clanked off the rim sending Arakanas to the elite eight. Despite the devastating finish, it was still an impressive run by Oral Roberts, one these kids will not soon forget.
(2) HOUSTON OVER (11) SYRACUSE 62-46
The father-son Boheim dream is over, as Buddy, and the Syracuse Orange, couldn’t hit their shots for coach Jim, as the Houston Cougars pulled out a wire-wire win aided by a 10-0 run to end the first half, putting them in the elite eight against the 12 seed Oregon State Beavers.
(1) GONZAGA OVER (5) CREIGHTON 83-65
The Bulldogs steamrolled past the Blue Jays to remain undefeated, and. Improve to 29-0.
(1) MICHIGAN OVER (4) FLORIDA STATE 78-56
A dominate performance by the Wolverines, sends the Seminoles home, and Michigan to the last eight.
(11) UCLA OVER (2) ALABAMA 88-78 IN OVERTIME:
The UCLA Bruins were in a tight game with Alabama, after having previously blown a double-digit lead, yet found themselves up 65-62, with four seconds remaining in regulation. Alex Reese of Alabama threw up a prayer, and it was answered, with the trey evening the game at 65, and sending it to Overtime. But that extra frame, saw UCLA score the frame’s first seven points, and when Jacquze Vaughn, only in the game because College rules permit a player to reenter the game even after being fouled out, knocked a trey with just over a minuet left, the celebration started for the 11th seeded UCLA Bruins, who will attempt to go from first four to final four, when they face Michigan in the last eight on Tuesday.
(6) USC 72 (7) OREGON 58
The Trojans advance to the elite eight, and are the next challenger the undefeated Gonzaga Bulldogs.
ELITE EIGHT DAY 1:
BAYLOR 81 ARKANAS 72
Down 13, the Razorbacks attempted to mount another comeback, cutting the Bears lead down to three, but Baylor would recover, and finish the game with a flourish to advance to the final four, for the first time in 41 years(1970).
