Steven Matz fired another Matzerpiece and Michael Conforto dealt the big Indians blow as the Mets took game one of this pivotal series against the Cleveland Indians 9-2 on a cool Tuesday night (8/20) in front of a rocking Citi Field
.
It was a slugfest early on as Jason Kipnis and JD Davis (2runHR) traded bombs. But both starters, Shane Biber for Cleveland and Steven Matz for the Mets settled down as the game was deadlocked at 2 after 5.
In the 6th, an Oscar Macardo dropped ball brought up Michael Conforto who demolished a go-ahead 2runHR that set the tone for the rest of the game as in the 7th, the Mets poured it on behind RBI singles from Amed Rosario and Joe Panik, while also receiving a 2run double from Pete Alonso that put a capper on this contest in Flushing, NY.
As for the Mets pitching, Matz went 6.2 innings of 2run ball and the bullpen went scoreless the rest of the way sealing the Mets win.
