We had Innings and games you won’t believe in game 5 of the LDS. Let’s get into them!
CARDINALS 13 BRAVES 1: CARDINALS WIN SERIES 3-2:
That is not a mistype, 13-1 was the final score in game 5 at Sun Trust Park as the Cardinals had 10 runners touch home plate in the 1st Inning pounding Braves pitchers Mike Foltynewicz and Max Freid early and often.
On the pitching side, the Cardinals were backed by Jack Flahrety who went 6 innings of 1run ball to send the Braves home who have now lost 10 straight playoff series tying an MLB record.
NATIONALS 7 DODGERS 3: NATIONALS WIN SERIES 3-2:
In one of the biggest playoff upsets in years, the Washington Nationals rallied past the 106 win Dodgers in game 5 at Dodger Stadium to move on to there first ever NLCS! They did it off two star pitchers in Walker Buhler and Clayton Kershaw too.
It didn’t look good early on, as the Dodgers got to Stephen Strasburg and took an early 3-0 lead, while Walker Buhler was brilliant going 6.2 innings of 1run ball with 8Ks. Yes, even after the Nats got on the board with an RBI single by Juan Soto in the 5th you still didn’t feel a comeback brewing for Washington.
But in the 8th, when Anthony Rendon and Soto hit back to back jacks off Kershaw to tie the game, both teams and fanbases could feel it, as Washington had rallied down 2-1 in the series and 3-0 in game 5 to tie it.
The game went to extra innings where we saw what the postseason is made for as Washington loaded the bases for a guy that had been having the worst postseason of his career to this point in Howie Kendrick, but that quickly turned around as Kendrick took LA reliver Joe Kelly deep in the 10th for a go-ahead grand slam that gave the Nats a 7-3 lead and a win that put them in the NLCS for the first time ever. They have shocked the world!
ASTROS 6 RAYS 1: ASTROS WIN SERIES 3-2:
Once again, it was all about Gerit Cole as his “7 innings of 1 run ball with 10Ks” performance propelled the Astros, who scored 4 runs off Tyler Glassnow in the 1st inning to a 6-1 win that puts them in the ALCS against the Yankees in what should be an epic rematch of the 2017 matchup which Houston took in 7 games.
LCS PREDICTIONS:
YANKEES OVER ASTROS IN 6:
The Yankees have the rest advantage meaning they can set there rotation and with playoff ace Masahiro Tanaka on the mound in game 1 against Zack Greinke, I give the Yankees the edge as they take game 1 in Houston.
Game 2 will most likely go to the Astros, as despite the Yankees having the advantage in the bullpen department I give the edge to Justin Verlander and the Stros over James Paxton and the Bombers.
In game 3, as much as I want to say the Yankees at home in the Bronx, Cole is pitching for Houston and even though Severino can turn in a good performance, I still give the advantage to Houston because of the daunting task that you face when Cole is on the mound.
Game 4 is a “Battle of the Bullpens” as both teams will use “Openers” so i give the advantage to the Yankees here because of the bullpen advantage they have over Houston.
I also give game 5 to the Yankees because Tanaka is back on the mound at Yankee Stadium against Greinke who doesn’t have a good playoff resume.
Then you have game 6, where Justin Verlander will toe the slab in Houston with the Yankees up 3-2 in this scenario. I suspect that while they may not win game 2, the Yankees relentless offense will work Verlander and oust one of the potent offenses in the league in the Astros with there bullpen allowing the Yankees to complete the upset and advance to there 1st World Series since 2009.
NATS OVER CARDS IN 6:
The Cinderella wave will help Washington in my opinion, and i think they upend the Cardinals because of that. They have the pitching in Sanchez, Scherzer, Strasburg and Corbin to do it while the Cardinals will counter with Milakos, Flahrety and Wainwright( 2X for games 2 and 4).
Both Bullpens are a little shaky but as we saw in the NLDS, Washington can counter with there starters and make it work which is what I think will happen here. I give the Cardinals two games here with those being game 1 at home with Milakos and the Jack Flaherty game. I feel like ST Louis will be too good for Washington in those two games specifically , but otherwise, Washington is too good and playing with so much confidence right now that I think it will be too much for the Cardinals to handle.
In the end, I feel that the Nationals 1st ever World Series appearance is in the Cards.
