These game 2’s lived up to the hype! Let’s get into them.
BRAVES 3 CARDINALS 0 SERIES TIED 1-1:
The Braves got what they needed after a devastating game 1 loss which was a good starting pitching performance out of Mike Foltynewicz who went 7 scoreless 7Ks and just enough offense as a Josh Donaldson RBI single and a Adam Duval 2runHR backed up Folty, as well as Melacanon and Green who preserved the lead and the shutout victory.
Despite the loss, Jack Flahrety pitched well for ST Louis as he went 7 innings of 3 run ball.
MVP: Mike Foltynewicz
LVP: Cardinals offense
NATIONALS 4 DODGERS 2 : SERIES TIED 1-1:
Stephen Strasburg has done it! He has once again proven he is a playoff pitcher as he went 6 innings of 1run ball with 10Ks, while the Nationals roughed up Clayton Kershaw for 3 runs in 6 innings receiving RBI knocks from Howie Kendrick, Adam Eaton and Anthony Rendon.
In the 8th, Max Scherzer completed the favor that Strasburg did for him in the Wild Card game by entering in relief and pitched a scoreless inning handing the ball to Daniel Hudson who was able to strike out Cory Seaver with the bases loaded and 2 outs to even the series and give the Nats a 4-2 win with the series shifting to DC.
MVP: Stephen Strasburg
LVP: Clayton Kershaw
YANKEES 8 TWINS 2: YANKEES LEAD SERIES 2-0
The Yankees just keep pounding the Twins.
Masahiro Tanaka went 5 innings of 1 run ball, but he really didn’t have to do much as the Yankees jumped all over Twins starter Randy Dobnak for an 8-2 win that was capped by a 7 run 3rd inning with a Didi Gregorious grand slam being the big blow.
Also chipping in were Edwin Encarnacion, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres and Brett Gardner who all drove in runs.
Tommy Kahlene, Adam Ottavino, Tyler Lyons and Jonothan Losiga went 4 innings of 1 run ball in relief of Tanaka.
MVP: Didi Gregorious
LVP: Randy Dobnak
ASTROS 3 RAYS 1: ASTROS LEAD SERIES 2-0:
Gerit Cole is simply on another level. In this one he struck out 15 Rays over 7 scoreless on over 100 pitches and was hitting 100 MPH... consistently.
The Astros offense did just enough getting contributions from Alex Bregman( HR), Martin Maldanado and Carlos Correa.
Despite the loss, Blake Snell pitched well for the Rays keeping them in it who will now turn to Charlie Morton in game 3 at Tropicana Field hoping to stave off elimination.
MVP: Gerit Cole
LVP: Rays offense
THOUGHTS:
The Astros looked real good in game 2 backed by Cole. They are my World Series favorites right now.
