He Ks Freddy Garcia , Fredemial Reyes, and Manny Machado who was boooed loudly by Yankees fans when he stepped up to the plate.
Bottom 1st:
Padres starting pitcher Matt Straham has kept the Yankees off balance early, as he recorded 2 Ks in a scoreless inning of work, as the Yankees got a runner on when Luke Voit worked a one out walk.
End 2nd: Padres 2 Yankees 3
Top 2nd:
David Hale relived Chad Green and got hit hard, as Josh Naylor and Austin Hedges both racked up RBI doubles to give the Padres a 2-0 lead. Kudos to Luke Voit though for saving a run as he nabbed Hunter Refroe at the plate with a smart throw from 1B. The crowd brought out the LUUUKE “ chants in appreciation for that play.
Bottom 2nd:
The Yankees have finally gotten to Matt Straham, as they brought out the long ball in the second inning. Clint Frazier got it started with a one out long ball to left, and a few batters later, Brett Gardner crushed one deep to right field for a 2runHR that scored Gio Urshela and just like that, the Yankees have a 3-2 lead! The crowd is going crazy!!!

The Yankees finally make a dent in the armor of Straham , as with 2 outs, DJ singled and Voit once again walked.
But Hicks flew out to end the threat.
End 6th:
Padres 2 Yankees 3
Top 6th:
Adam Ottavino relived Hale, and despite allowing a leadoff single to Fremil Reyes, he was able to settle down, as he got Manny Machado to ground into a double play, with Voit making a lunging catch at first on the DJ throw to complete the DP!
After that, Ottavino struck out Renfore to complete his 1 scoreless inning in relief!
Bottom 6th:
Straham is dealing, as he strikes out Sanchez, Torres and Urshela with a Clint Frazier double sandwiched in between.
He now has 8Ks on the day.
End 7th: Padres 2 Yankees 3.
Top 7th:
This was an eventful inning at the Stadium, as “YMCA” was played before the start of the inning, and when it did, Tommy Kahlene came in for the Yankees, and got 2 quick outs, before the game was stopped for a moment of silence to remember all of the fallen soldiers on this Memorial Day at Yankee Stadium and around the USA.
After the moment of silence, Tommy strikes out Ian Kinser for his second K of the inning, as he also struck out Will Myers to lead off the inning.
Great job by Kahlene, as he retires the Padres down in order!
Bottom 7th:
Straham records two more Ks, plus a throwing error, as he walked DJ LeMahieu before throwing the ball away allowing him to go to 2B. But no harm done, as Straham got out of the inning, to complete a 10K day.

After that, Gleyber Torres got a bloop double when a Padre misplayed the ball in right field, and came around to score when Fremantle Reyes bobbled the ball in right, to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead.
Give Camron Maybin an RBI, as the crowd goes nuts!!!
Clearly rattled, the Padres make a pitching change , as Phil Maton relived Sammen, while crowd did the waves 11 times, letting their engraver out!
Maton did his job, sending the game to the 9th, with the Yankees up 5-2.
Ballgame over! Yankees win 5-2!
Machado gets booed one more time, and finally responds, as he doubles off Aroldis Chapman to lead off the 9th. But Aroldis settles down and retires the next 3 Padres to secure a 5-2 Yankees 5-2 victory much to the delight of 46,254 at Yankee Stadium!
MVP: The Yankees bullpen! But Luke Voit is a close second!
