MONDAY'S WITH MARV 3/9/20

A lot has happened in NY Sports lately. So let’s get into it!

KNICKS: 20-44

Another loss that had fans chanting “Sell the team” to Dolan to the 5th seeded Thunder (126-103), before a 96-84 win against the lowly Pistons (20-45) gave Knicks fans some joy for a night on Sunday(3/8) to end the homestand at 2-2.

NETS 29-34:

The story here isn’t the fact that they have won the last two games at home over the Spurs(139-120) and the Bulls (110-107 despite turning the ball over a franchise -record 29 times), its the firing of coach Kenny Akinson. This move was reportedly player-driven as players didn’t like his coaching style, maybe because he reportedly didn’t want to coach KD and Kyrie from the beginning?

We may never know the exact reason but the point here is that he’s out and interim coach Jacque Vaughn is in.

I’m shocked at the timing because the Nets are on the verge of a playoff berth despite the underperforming this season.

Maybe that’s why the firing came though, the Nets couldn’t wait any longer and decided to make the move now instead of after the season.

The objective for the rest of the year for these guys is to just to get in the postseason and do what you can there.

RANGERS: 36-28-4

Mika-mania!!! He goes off for 5 goals as the Rangers shock the metro-leading Capitals 6-5 in OT!

The win pulls the Rangers to within two points of the Wild Card.

But then a 6-4 home loss to the rival and lowly Devils in Igor’s return sets the Rangers back and they now sit 3 points back of the Hurricanes, with Carolina having a game in hand on the Rangers. The Jackets hold the first WC with 81 points, but have a 3 games in hand disadvantage against the Canes, but currently lead them by 2 points.

ISLANDERS: 35-21-9

The losses continue. 4-3 to the lowly Senators and a big 3-2 OT loss to the Hurricanes, has the Isles on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.

YANKEES:

The key to the rest of ST is staying healthy, as AARON Judge will miss the first month of the 2020 season with a right rib stress fracture, and can miss up to June if it requires surgery.

METS:

The starters have been playing well. One guy who has caught my eye is the new guy in Jake Marisnick, as he keeps batting in runs here, while also getting on base.

Mets fans should be excited for this 2020 season, as they are expected to make a run at a playoff berth.

NBA:

The Lakers (49-13), have proven they’re the best team in basketball, as they defeated the Bucks (53-11) and Clippers (43-20) over the weekend.

Lebron and AD both went off for 30+ in both games, as the Lakers ran away late from the Bucks on Friday night(3/6) 113-103, before doing the same to the Clippers 112-103 on Sunday(3/8) At Staples Center.

Also chipping in, has been Avrey Bradley with his 3 point barrage on Sunday going off for 6 3’s and 33 points.

TENNIS:

Due to the world-wide Corona Virus, one of there biggest tournaments of the season in Indian Wells has been canceled.
